The concept of a phenolic spacer is not new; but in reality they often are more of a PITA to deal with than the gains they provide. Is that spacer a gasket itself, or do you have to stick manifold gaskets on either side of it to get it to work?

How about just ditch it and run E85 or alky injection?

As many links as I have to prove that they don't suck. My point is you can touch the intake manifold all you want to see if it's hot or cold and then convince yourself that it is affecting the intake air temp, but in reality when the air is moving who knows how fast through the intake which really does not have that much surface area how much do you think it is heating up the air? Most likely not enough to justify the pain in the ass job it is to keep a leak-free spacer between the head and the intake manifold.

If you do use one, a few good coats of copper spray with no gaskets should make it seal, that is if the head flange of your SMIM is flat.

I personally planned on running one once I get my manifold. I've just never heard anyone say that they are a complete waste. I figure they can't hurt. But I haven't researched the topic to death, so all I was asking is if you have some good info about why they are such a waste of time, I'd be interested in reading it. I don't think I'll have a problem keeping it leak free. A gasket and some copper spray should work fine, plus the fact that I'm going to have the flange milled before I put it on the car to ensure it's flat. I've definately touched my head after some driving, and it is definately hot. No matter how short of a time the air is in there, I'd think a little bit of that heat would effect the air temp in there. So if you have some good info on it, please share. I'm going to search about it for a little bit myself though now, because now I'm curious as to what could really be wrong with using one.

Re: Anyone heard of GT Pro?

I have heard mainly bad things too, most of them tend to warp. A while ago I figured out how fast the air was moving through a 2.5" pipe, I think it was 187 mph at 7k rpm for a 2.4l. How long do you think the air is going to sit in the intake manifold at those speeds and what do you think the temp rise is going to be? I bet way less than 1/2 a degree.

That's the info I was looking for. Common sense says there are negligible gains to be had.

Re: Anyone heard of GT Pro?

These spacers were all the rage years ago. But when everyone over time ended up having issues with boost leaks etc. everyone ditched them. I guess they still get sold to suckers who don't know any better, but really, they do nothing. Like Jet said, the air doesn't spend enough time in the IM to make a difference in IAT's.

If a crappy intercooler can't make a big difference with temperatures, how is an open void with no turbulence going to have an effect?

Re: Anyone heard of GT Pro?

My spacer was warped to shit, it looked like it was almost melted. The gasket was bad but that didnt correct all of the problems, The car still was idling like it had cams, so i did a boost leak check and sure enough i was leaking mass amounts of air through the throttle body. so i pulled the piping off and checked it out, somehow, (i seriously have no idea) i forgot to put in the front bottom corner bolt on the throttle body. So there was a nice hole directly into the intake plenum. So i put in a bolt, sealed and tightened it and started the car up and it idled like a dream and the WB was actually reading 15.0 FINALLY!
So next week ill be back at GTPro doing some more tuning.

As for RRE, yeah they are sometimes good guys. I havent had a problem with a lot of them.
Halon, thats great that you get deals if you keep buying from them. but chances are that the prices you pay after buying a crap load of stuff is about the same prices at any other shop. I think ill stick to GTPro.

Re: Anyone heard of GT Pro?

I have my spacer so I can touch the manifold for quick plug changes if needed.
Plus it added a bit of runner length that I needed back after modifying the upper plenum .

No doubt. I emailed him a couple weeks ago and he said he could do a street tune for me but he was out of the country until Thanksgiving.

Re: Anyone heard of GT Pro?

He's also got detailed information on what his car does 0-60, 0-100, 0-160 and top speeds. He had a nice website with all of that, don't know if he still has that or not.
