Re: where should i start with modding?

Well, I don't plan to get too much into racing, but I will probably race every once and a while.
This summer Iplan to do as amny free mods as possible, but i'm not quite sure where to start with them! I plan to do free mods this summer because they are easy, and I want to use this summer to work and get money so I can get things for my car.

Re: where should i start with modding?

Here is a handy site for you to read. Lots of tips and tricks. See www.vfaq.com and start reading. You can also look at Buschur's site or AMS or whoever and get an idea on what path to take.

It really all depends on what your HP goals are and/or how fast and reliable you want it to be.

Re: where should i start with modding?

Thats the best site to start out on. Also dsm.org will help some. Even thou they have not updated in years. But like stated do you want to have a 13, 12, 11, or 10 sec DSM for this summer? Hp can be easy to have with the right mods. We plan to help but you need to tel us what you want out of the car.

Re: where should i start with modding?

Establish goals, search classic vendors for staged upgrades, search.
Vfaq.com is your friend.
Also what is an ACR? you stated its your first.

I would say 12-13 sec car would be what you are looking for then.

I think ACR is newb for CAR.

Also, I don't believe you have read vfaq at all. There is a nice little mods list to follow if you just looked. If you are looking to get hp and gas mileage put an intake and a fart can on your car and call it a day.

Re: where should i start with modding?

Before you begin modding, make sure you are up to date on all your maintenance such as a timing belt job, all fluids changed, etc.

Now, are you interested in a car that goes fast in just a straight line or also around corners? Good basic power mods to start with are turbo-back exhaust, full intake, a boost controller, and a S-AFC.

If you can't afford a $40 boost controller maybe modding a DSM isn't the smartest thing to do

Re: where should i start with modding?

I got mine for 10 bucks off ebay, works like a charm.

I say, just up the boost to 15 psi, and have fun. Should hold you over for the summer. Also, don't forget to slap in an aftermarket boost gauge before you think about messing with the boost levels. The stock one in the dash isn't accurate at all.
