Oh well, i have the next two days to do this so im pretty good.

The fork should be about in the middle. Check this link out. Goto the very bottom of it.

If it was towards the passenger side, then you were probably constant pressure on the TOB which isn't good. Constant pressure on the PP & the crank as well.

Which comes from adjusting the clutch rod under the dash too far in. That can also damage the master cylinder.

Re: I give up...

You're welcome. Yes, it's a very helpful site. You may end up having to get a new master cylinder as well, so don't get disgusted right away if it don't cure the problem.

Unless the TOB has become shaped completely out of proportion from extreme wear or abuse, I think the only bad effect of one would be the noise such as what you're hearing. I don't feel shifting problems would arise from just a noisy TOB.

wait... you do understand that the position of your release fork doesnt usually have anything to do with the TOB right? Its your pivot or fork itself, pressure plate, or your hydraulic system. My money is on pivot or fork, or pressure plate. PLEASE check them out before you put the tranny back on! the 4th time would not be a charm

Re: I give up...

Since you are going to Mitsu for a new TOB anyways, just buy a new fork and ball to be safe since they are fairly inexpensive. Do it once (or three times), do it right.

Re: I give up...

arent the forks pretty expensive? I would think you could visually see if the fork is bent, the ball is cheap to replace, so might as well do it.

Re: I give up...

I would buy a new PP, TOB, Ball/fork, master cyl. and call it done. Then you elimintate everything. Thats what I did anyway and it ended up being my clutch pedal assembly that needed welding LOL.

That pressure plate doesnt look new. It looks like some thing was hitting againt it. its hard to tell from the pics but it looks like something was hitting the flywheel too. I agree with M/// guy replace it all and be done with it.

Re: I give up...

That pressure plate is sure beat to hell. The one I just took off my car supposedly only had a few thousand miles on it (maybe 10,000+ as far as I know) and aside from the dust it was shiny. Yours looks like it was tossed around the garage a few hours before hand.

From the looks of the pictures it looks like the PP fingers are flat. They should be bent out away from the clutch disk.

Re: I give up...

It was the throw out bearing. we got it all together tonight, i was able to put it in gear and press the break without it killing and no noise. but then all of the sudden it started vibrating really badly, so i pulled it in. looked under the car at the flywheel and was gonna have my buddy start it, but then when he got in the car i watched the flywheel move a little, instantly i realised that i didnt double check the bolts after putting the mounts in, so tomorrow im gonna retighten the bolts and that should fix the problem.

Re: I give up...

I'd still check the position of the clutch fork. If it's still more towards the passenger side, then it could mean the TOB is constantly riding on the PP. If so, this can cause premature wear.

I agree with the others above. The PP does look like it has seen better days. By the way, the fingers of the PP flatten out as it's tightened to the flywheel. When it's off is generally the only time you'll see them at the angle.

Re: I give up...

Can someone with a GST please go out and take a picture of the lower rear bolt that goes from the engine to the transmission. On my car the Inspection cover is missing, and there is a bolt that goes from the engine to the transmission right above the drive shafts. Im not sure if there is supposed to be a gap there or not. I first thought there was supposed to be one, so i put the bolt in and tighened it with a spacer between the engine and tranny, but it kept wiggleing out for some reason. After tightening that bolt 4 times i decided i would just skip the spacer and tighten it as much as possible. now it doesnt come out but im not sure if there was supposed to be a gap there for lining everything up.
Can someone please go out, jack up their car and take a picture of the bolt right above where the drive shafts come into the tranny so i can compare? Thank you.
Tom

Re: I give up...

There is not suppose to be any gaps between the tranny and engine block besides the starter plate. They all squeeze together.
