Re: Hydrogen Generator for my daily car
Got my Hydrogen generator yesterday. Will hook it up to my daily this week. I was out in garage screwing around with it and filled it with water. I hooked it up to my Battery Charger. I then added about 4 tablespoons of lye that I picked up at Home Depot. You add enough lie till you draw around 15 amps. I plugged the output hole with my finger and then had the charger on for maybe 10 seconds. I took my finger off and quickly stuck a lighter by the output hole. SCARED THE FREEKIN SHIT OUT OF ME!!! I thought it would just blow a flame like a bunson burner. NO! It blew out a fireball and made a BANG to that of a M80. It also blew the PVC filler cap off out into the street. I can't believe how quickly it produced Hydrogen. I can't wait to hook it up to the car. It hooks to the Intake just before the throttle body. You can hook it to the PCV valve but they don't recommend it.

Re: Hydrogen Generator for my daily car
No! Nothing like that. It was just a quick bang with a fireball. A LOUD BANG! The chamber is 4" PVC and about 10" in length or so. These units could easily be duplicated. It's all Home Depot stuff.

Re: Hydrogen Generator for my daily car
Why would he sell it if he didn't make a profit? With the Ammeter gauge and everything else, there might be $30 worth of materials. So what if he made $70. I guess I wouldn't put something on ebay if it was a break even deal. I bought it to try it and reverse engineer it.

Re: Hydrogen Generator for my daily car
I will be installing it this weekend. I usually don't get into deep projects during the week. Not that this is deep or anything.
joesushi- awesome link! I don't know what the deal is with the skepticals. Personally, if you're cool with paying $3.50 for a gallon of gas, then do it, This thread isn't for you.

If that very last sentence was towards me. It's pathetic we all still HAVE to use gasoline to get around. That is if your work isnt within biking distance and you dont live where there is snow and negative temp for a good portion of the year. Altho i don't know much about what you are attempting to do, but keep me posted.

Re: Hydrogen Generator for my daily car
Alright, hydrogen has 3 times the energy stored in it (by weight) compared to gas. The molecular weight of oxygen is 16 and hydrogen is 1. H2O therefore weighs 18. The hydrogen in it weighs 2. So 2/18 = 11%.
Now we know that 11% of the weight of water is hydrogen. You have about a 2 liters (roughly a quart) of water in the storage unit and that is probably being generous. 1/2 gallon of water weighs 4.15lbs times 11% and you have .46 lbs of hydrogen in your storage tank.
We know that hydrogen has 3 times the heat output of gas, so you have the equivalent of 1.38 lbs of gas or just under 1/4 gallon of gasoline. So to see a 5% rise in MPG, you would have to fill your water tank for every 5 gallons of gas you burnt. That is if your car was setup to burn hydrogen. The problem is that hydrogen burns very quickly and needs to be ignited at TDC or later so you don't run into pre-ignition and just blow it back out the valves. Your car doesn't do this.
Need any more reason why there are skeptics who know it won't work?

Yeah, nobody is saying that it is impossible to make a hydrogen powered car, but some $100 piece of ebay junk isn't gonna cut it.
Also, notice how the news clip didn't state how the water was broken down?? Plug it into a wall, solar power, who knows? Just keep in mind there is no such thing as free power.

True for the U.S., but not for France, Germany, and Japan. Although, this obviously will fail, we've all seen spiderman....

Re: Hydrogen Generator for my daily car
Ya, let's base our knowledge of fusion reaction off a hollywood flick? In REALITY, there is a LOT involved with created and sustaining a fusion reaction. If something goes wrong, the reaction will just fail. It won't balloon out of control like it did in your movie, it will just die. Plus that plant has a ways to go. It's a test facility, and who knows when it will actually be operational. For now we just have the good ol fission plants

Didn't you notice the last country on the list? Yep, the USA. I read about this a while back. They put it in France cuz they were whining about it. The US is paying the largest amount, France was 3rd I think.

Ok, keep completely missing my point.
What powered that dune buggy. Water, I know, but what provided the energy to break down that water?? I'll give you a hint, it wasn't an experimental fusion power plant...

Re: Hydrogen Generator for my daily car
If he could break the water down in a small go-cart. I think we could do with in a car.
I'm just gona let you all argue over this. It probably won't be in the 2006 year, but when i get a hydrogen car, i'll let everyone know. I've seen it working, saw it drive off. But i lack the funds to do it.
