Just a little paranoid...
If I take my 92 TSi in to have the transfer case recall work done, are they going to give me a hard time about any mods? Specifically I dont have a catalytic converter, just a 3" straight thru exhaust, swapped JDM motor, FMIC, etc.
Not sure how you guys deal with this stuff... would it affect getting the recall work done?

Re: Just a little paranoid...
You could just bring in the transfer case with the VIN number.

LOL!
Well then, take in the vehicle.
The recall is a safety recall if I remember correctly, so modifications shouldn't matter.
Just bring it to Brookdale .

Re: Just a little paranoid...
Your mods won't affect your ability to get recalls performed, by law the dealership has to do them.

Re: Just a little paranoid...
So how do they/you know the car still has the original T-case in the car, other than service records? I have not seen any VIN numbers stamped on the T-case.

Re: Just a little paranoid...
The dealership brings it up based on the vehicles VIN #. They run the VIN and can tell if the car is still eligible.

Re: Just a little paranoid...
I realize service records will pull up a vehicle's history. The reason I'm asking is so I would know how to walk up to a T-case laying on a shop floor and know if it's from a car that was updated. Do they tag the T-case as "repaired under recall"? Is there a different casting number on the updated T-cases?

The part that is replace is the piece at the back of the t-case that hooks into the driveshaft. They can probably tell by looking at it if it has been done. I did the recall myself and just paid the $15 or whatever for the recall part. I figured that was better than screwing with a dealership.

I've never heard of anyone getting reported by a dealership or shop for having off-road mods on their car. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Hell, call ahead and ask the service manager straight out!

Re: Just a little paranoid...
I don't think I'd worry too much. Cabe keeps telling me my car is eligible for the xfer case recall and to come and get it done, and he knows the mods on my POS. I'm guessing I'll need to flatbed it in to get it done some Sunday afternoon this spring.

Re: Just a little paranoid...
How hard was doing the work yourself? Did it require removal and partial disassembly of the T case or what? How long did it take you?
s2kracka: Thats what I was planning on doing.

Re: Just a little paranoid...
If you can remove the T-case you can do the recall. In fact, its not even part of the T-case, its the piece attached to the driveshaft that slides into the tcase. The defective part is a plug that keeps the oil in your tcase.

Re: Just a little paranoid...
there are no markings on the t-case unless the mechanic takes it apon him self to do so.... the yoke style is a bit different but its hard to dicern just by LOOKING AT THEM... i beleive there is a diameter diffence to make sure the seal stays in contact longer with the yoke...
So basically if you have a car w/ an open recall you can shove any transfer case in it, but it will be a one shot deal... from what im getting now since the recall is so old..

Re: Just a little paranoid...
So the transfer case recall is actually a yoke recall? My yoke is a leaky bastard. Do you keep the yokes in stock? Price?
