Fun day at Moroso today 10-15-05

I went to Moroso today to try to do some tuning and to try out the AntiLag feature of DSMLINK for the first time today. I read onefast99GSX was going to RockFAlls today or Tomarrow and he'd mentioned he was going to try out Anti Lag so I posted on DSMLINK forums asking how to set it up and how it worked. And to start off I wanted to give you guys a comparison of Using Anti Lag and Not using it. with out changing anything from the last time I raced till this time. (except wipping off the oil from my valve cover before each run this time around and having a full tank of gas vs 1/4 tank)

Anyrate to start - I am still running on 3 cylinders as far as I can tell I pulled the spark plug after my 3rd and final run of the day. Still Black

so now On to the good stuff. as you know my previous best was 12.9@110mph last time at the track.

The only difference today was I turned on Anti lag. So first try:
Sutterbox set at 5750rpms with anti lag set at 4500rpms with Timing set at 5 degrees, as per instructed on DSMLINK as they said I would no longer need my 7K launch RPM due to boost build up. And I have it turned on so Anti Lag kicks in between shifts to maintain turbo speed.

Run 1: 5:26pm - 10/15/2005
Car #1711
R/T: .839
60' - 2,146
330 - 5.704
1/8 - 8.467
mph - 91.12
1000 - 10.799
1/4 - 12.764
mph - 113.42mph

Didn't get a log cause laptop froze and no time to reset. But as you can see I bogged the launch.

Run 2: 5:38pm - 10/15/2005
Car #1711
R/T: .610
60' - 1.743
330 - 5.018
1/8 - 7.712
mph - 93.76
1000 - 9.983
1/4 - 11.904
mph - 115.91

Log is at the bottom of this page:
http://www.scottbarton.net/Brian/Ecl...t%20Page/logs/

As you can see not only is this a new personal best But I also nailed everything on this run, the launch looks to be at 21psi, and the car just up and went no down time for the turbo to spool. I lifted a little bit on the 1-2 shift but the rest I held my foot on the gas and NLTS at what felt like the peak in the power band in each gear. Came through the lights at about 9K in 3rd gear.

3rd Run: 5:49pm 10/15/2005
Car#1711
R/T - .387
60' - 1.772
330 - 5.112
1/8 - 7.803
mph - 92.86
1000 - 10.104
1/4 - 12.043
mph - 115.07

Log is again at the bottom of that web page I listed.

On this run I wanted to NLTS the entire run and I started Reving the car up earlier at the lights to see about building more boost. didn't turn out the way I'd planned.

I took off fine, but when I went for the 1-2 shift the clutch didn't hold and the RPMS held at like 8K for a while then it caught, rpms dropped and the car started to go again. Looks like to much for the 2600.

I was excited to see the 12.0 with the messed up 2nd gear. I saw the intake temps were high so I stopped the car to let it cool off and it's a good thing I did.

I popped the hood to find a nasty smell coming from underneath. quick look Down and I spot oil on my powersteering pump. The Dip Stick had popped out. No biggie clean up the mess push the dipstick back down. Take out the #2 spark plug to find it Brown/Black, put it back in and then Get on the phone to brag to my brother that I just went 11.9 on 3 cylinders and full tank of 93oct.

At the end of that phone call, I go to start the car up and I hear and exhaust leak. Pop the hood to find that 2 of my turbo bolts that hold it to the exhaust manifold had back themselves completely out. And the gasket is is now shreaded and hanging off the side of the turbo.

I tried to tighten it down but it was to hot so I just packed up and went home. All and all I am very impressed with AntiLag. It's the only thing I changed since last time at the track. I'll have the time slip posted up in a little while Jenny is on the other computer and I need it's editing software so I can zoom in on the time slip. The digital camera won't focus if I try to zoom in close enough to see the print.

Re: Fun day at Moroso today 10-15-05

I was freaking out. There was a bunch of guys that came up to me earlier and were kind of giving me a hard time about my car (body kit, with cage) but then me saying it'll probaby run 12.9-13.0@110mph. They didn't really believe that previously I'd run 12.1@115mph back in MN on stock motor. But that I was only running on 3 cylinders.

So after my 3rd run I parked the car to let it cool off and they came up to me and were like I guess you got that 4th cylinder back. That's when I pulled the spark plug to show them It's still black as can be. They couldn't believe it. A guy I'd parked next to with a tubbed out Camero that ran mid 12's came over after over hearing the conversation, he didn't believe it when he saw it.

This was about 22psi@93oct (I was wrong last time the gas station I fill up at Amoco, only carries 93 not 92 I mentioned before)

Re: Fun day at Moroso today 10-15-05

Congrats on the 11 second run Brian. Check out my personal best on the Rock Falls October 15&16 post. I ran a new personal best too! I hope to run 11's the next time out once i can find a HUGE leak. Could only boost to 19# today. Cranked MBC in at least 4 turns total throughout day.

I told you Antilag would work well for you. It's noisy as shit but it works great. BTW- if your dipstick is popping out, you're building up too much crankcase pressure. Are you vented enough?

I hope to get one more day in this year at Rock which is the last day of the season.

Re: Fun day at Moroso today 10-15-05

I've been to the track 3 times in the past 2 months with probably 22 times down the track and knock on wood with only minor problem/breakages.

So far the damage is:
-2 bolts for the shifter that mounts to the tranny had to be replaced after they fell out at NOPI
-Gasket for my T3/T4 manifold - will be ording as soon as I can
-And the #2 acting up.

Honestly so far there doesn't seem to be any problems running it the way I am. I have little to No knock on all my runs, it's not pushing coolant, Not pushing Oil, so far everything seems to be doing fine on all 3 cylinders. As far as the car feels when driving it's feels like everything is running properly. IF it wasn't for the #2 spark plug being black I wouldn't even know there was something wrong. especially after today's track times.

Re: Fun day at Moroso today 10-15-05

What's your compression on #2, same or close to the other 3 cyls?

Have you tried switching coil packs around to see if the problem goes with the coil pack or stays at #2. Switching wires around, etc..

Also maybe even try switching injectors around to see if the problem goes to another cyl?

I'm just shooting at any idea that I would probably if I had that problem but maybe you have.

Re: Fun day at Moroso today 10-15-05

Just checked out your logs. You said you have Antilag to operate between shifts but in digging into your dsmlink logs, it doesn't appear that you have it set to work during shifts. You only have it set to work during the studderbox. You need that 'Enable clutch control' box checked. You have the top one checked but not the one below it. You will know when it's working because it sounds like a M-80 firework shooting out your exhaust. Check it. There, you have something else to look forward too.

Re: Fun day at Moroso today 10-15-05

Here's a link to my webpage that has my car info. (times slips are now added)
http://www.scottbarton.net/Brian/Eclipse%20Test%20Page/

As for my car:
I've swapped injectors, as well as changed which coil the #2 fires off of, changed spark plug wires, changed spark plugs, No matter what I've done the problem never went with what ever it was that I switched, it always stayed in the #2 cylinder.

Funny thing is Compression is the highest in the cylinder 180.

And you were right I thought I'd checked it. But reviewint it on my laptop shows I didn't have it enabled between shifts.

The cylinder has to be firing somewhat. If it wasn't firing then it wouldn't be black. Black is usually from being excessively rich rich or oil fouling. A cylinder that isn't firing will have a plug that looks brand new, but is wet and covered with raw gasoline.

Re: Fun day at Moroso today 10-15-05

I'd been wondering about that, I didn't know if the black was from it firing, with to much fuel, or if that was what happened when fuel just gets caked on there. It's just weird cause the 3 other cylinders are a very nice grey color.

Re: Fun day at Moroso today 10-15-05

Well I installed the new T3 gasket yesterday and at the same time I took off the Valve cover to see if I could find anything else wrong that would be causing my problem with the #2...

And well I'm pretty sure it has to be Oil that's causing my problem. I found probably 5-7 cracks in my Valve cover, and 1 major one around my #2 Cylinder. the circular part that the spark plug wire top kind of fits against when you push it down, is almost crack a complete 360 degress around. There was also a hair line crack from 1 cam gear to the next along the spark plug well.

Needless to say I'm shocked that I don't have oil coming out everywhere. I don't know why I have so many cracks but it does.

Interesting... how is the oil that is leaking, getting to the combustion chamber to cause the plug to blacken like that?

Re: Fun day at Moroso today 10-15-05

I'm not sure but a lot of people have been suggesting oil could be a the cause, And intermitently I'd been getting smoke out my exhaust. First at Nopi's when I first Reved up the car to test the Stutterbox. And I had it happen again this last time around at the tracks when I started the car and then heard the exhaust leak, but since it only lasted for about 20 seconds. I didn't mention it. (only came out exhaust when I reved) and after the 4th blip of the throttle it stopped coming out) and hasn't happened since.
