car: 01-03 Mazda Protege ES nice looks, nicely designed interior, powerful enough engine, good handling comparatively speaking

SUV: late 90's Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee Limited (newer if you can find one under $10k) I just like the Jeeps. As far as SUV's go, you might as well buy that that is decently capable.

'97 or newer Grand Prix GT/GTP or Bonneville SSE/SSEi gets my vote. Both very spacious, sharp looking cars with plenty of power.

Speaking from pesonal experience, the 97+ Grand Prix's begin having tons of little problems right around 60k miles. My family has owned a '99 and an '01 and from 60k on they were nothing but problems.

I like Diamantes a lot. Just don't get the gas milage I want. I too am looking at getting a family sized car when I get home. I'm looking at Altimas, Galants, 626's, Jettas, things along those lines because they have 4cyl engines and will get a lil better gas milage. Ask Goat Blower on here, he can find you a car cuz he runs his own dealership

Buick Lesabres or Park Avenues, space, power, reliablity, if you don't mind looking like grandpa. The superchaged models are pretty snappy.

I would find a low mileage Maxima. 4 doors and some power too. And you can even get a 5 speed.

Re: Used Family Car/SUV...under 10k?

I have or have had just about every possible foreign family car in that price range. There's a lot of good ones to pick from, but in my experience, I've had the best luck with Volvos. They have the best bang for the buck under $10K, and some are turbo and AWD to boot.

My experience with Jeeps has been souring lately, too many tranny and rear end problems on Grand Cherokees unless you're getting a 2000 or newer, which would barely fit under $10K with some miles on it. Most of the foreign SUV's aren't too impressive in that range.
