Find AC parts and start unbolting. There are all the lines, the condensor, the compressor and compressor bracket, the evaporator, and the AC fuse box. That should be everything besides for wiring harnesses.

Yeah, I thought the same about the freon. Didn't want to breath in that stuff. That is why I am looking for a vfaq on it for some tips. Car is not moveable now so I cannot go somewhere and have it drained.

there are what 3 major parts to it...
1. the one in the dash
2. compressor
3. behind the radiator..
4. you can also remove the belt tensioner which is extra 1/2 pound and it gets in the way..
5. all the lines
6. fuses
7. some wiring
so you are easily talking about 50 pounds savings..

Just loosen the lines and let the stuff vent to the atmosphere, it won't hurt anything. Freon and R134A don't do any damage to the enviroment (Freon actually contains components that help in the rebuilding of the Ozone layer).

1992 might still have r-12 in it, which is very harmful to the ozone layer. But neither r-134a or r-12 are poisonous, R-12 is heavier than air and can suffocate you though.

This has actually been proven false since it was removed from cars in the US.

on the awd's, don't remove the ac bracket unless you come up with a spacer for the carrier bearing mount. Not having that properly spaced can lead to drivetrain, and knock problems.
Otherwise, drain, and happy hacking .

Freon is just Dupont's trade name for R-12, The Dupont trade name for r-134a is Suva.So r-12 is freon and r-134a is not.

I'm not saying you are wrong ,but I don't see how that could be possible.Sunlight causes R-12 to lose chlorine atoms, and chlorine breaks down ozone into oxygen.Where did you hear this?

The inventor of Freon used to inhale it just to show people it was safe.It can still suffocate you though, so just release it in an open area.

Actually, I forgot. My car was converted to R134a before I bought it. The open area is going to have to be my garage I quess. Maybe I will turn on a big fan or something after I remove the first line and go inside for 5 minutes.

He invented freon in the 20's so I would have to say he is long dead.I think he died from lead poisoning, he invented leaded gasoline too.
