My brother just bought a Turbo MR2 and he's has a few questions.

Here's his Email and Link to the pictures. He has an oil leak. I think it's a Gasket to the turbo oil line or possibly a cracked oil line.

Here's what he had to say:

It's not coming out the exhaust (although smoke does come out of the exhaust
between shifts while at WOT, just not under normal driving).
The oil is leaking onto the transmission. It is probably a seal.

Take a look at http://www.scottbarton.net/MR2/images
images 0739-0745. They show images of where the oil is leaking onto.

I could DEFINATELY use advice for a turbo setup. Basically I want a
reliable mid-high 12 second car. I am thinking around 300whp, but more or
less depending on what will get me into the 12's consistantly.

But formost it must be useful on the autocross coarse and track days. It
should come on smooth and not need excessive spool time.

Also I know I will need a S-AFC soon. If you know of where I can get one
cheap, or if anyone is selling a used one, let me know.

Don't mod it they suck. The motor sucks. Working on them sucks. They like to destroy pistons too. You can't make decent, reliable power with the shitty sidemount intercoolers they have to run.

hahaha well it's a little to late for that?

I'll pass it along but - I know that's not what he wants to hear.

What about the oil leak? I know you have to guess. But any clues as to were to look would be helpful.

IMO - it looks like my car when my oil return line is leaking. But since I don't know MR2's I'm just guessing.

How much did he pay for it!? I've been looking around for one for a while and not much luck.

If he ever wants to sell... let me know...

Good Luck with the oil leak tho. :goodluck:

clean all the shit off and run it for awhile. if there's that much, it shouldn't be hard to tell where it's coming from.
i owned a 91 for many years, and the car is a blast. it's a decent engine, but it does suck to work on if you don't have a lift. the stock pistons are weak. don't boost much with them or you'll blow the lands right off. for intercooler mods, you can do the trunk setup, but then you lose that storage space.
i always had the ct-26 turbo in mine.

I think he was planning on building the motor over the winter.

Thanks for the advice so far.

i used to want an MR2 really really bad, so i know a little bit from being on their forums for years.

there is a turbo oil feed line that is really hard to get at, so difficult in fact they dubbed it the "Hose From Hell." it likes to leak, go to the mr2 forums and do a search.

do not put an afc on it either, when you start messing with the fuel control the car freaks out and pulls tons of timing. the bottom line is the ECU hates to make power. if your bro wants a little bit more power just tell him to find the jap spec CT20b, its the 240hp stock turbo over there. good for almost 300whp.

the intercooler as shane said, is a big pain in the ass because no matter how "big" it is its still sitting inches away from the motor in a poorly ventilated enclosure. lots of guys fab up heat walls out of thermo-resistant foam or whatever they have lying around.

good luck
