I was checking head bolts on cylinder and making sure they were still correct ft. pd. tourque because new cylinder and thought I would get new gasket at dealership for valve cover and plugs. Used sealer to the perimeter and did everything the same as before. Valve gasket was not leaking before, just thought I would do anyways as insurance. I specifically asked for a gasket for my model engine etc., but noticed the design was different. It looks flater and not rounded like mine. I installed and turned on engine. To my surprise it leaked everywhere. I wanted to go to Porky's tonight. So I went through process again and used my used gasket and no problem. I don't know what they are doing at dealership, never let them touch my car. Is there any difference between 2.0 turbo 4g63 91 and 95 valve gasket? I did the swap a year ago and have always used same gasket. Maybe they make the gaskets flater now. There is a obvoius difference. Pretty basic question, but maybe others have had problems with valve cover gasket leaking.

All 90-99 4g63T valve covers were identical. That seems odd how the dealer could get you the wrong gasket... The gasket should be grooved as to fit nice and snug in the valve cover without using any rtv or other additional sealant.

It was grooved on the side where it meets the valve cover, like it should, but where it meets the cylinder it is really flat and the line that runs is too smooth and not very rounded. I throw my hands up on this one. I am going to bring in my gasket next time so I can see difference. THANKS.

The 1G and 2G gaskets are actually different. Get the correct one for your head.

:whipped: I don't see why it would matter being all the valve covers are the same. But I do know I went to order one and they told me it was two different part numbers also.... :razz2:
