As noted in that thread, this is also why you should always invest in a full face helmet. Notice the flying glass? Yeah, that wouldn't feel so good in your face.

Re: This is why race cars have big wings
Oh! crazy. Original setup, 3 years of racing with:
New setup, he crashed after 4 laps with:
Must have just pulled right through the CF trunk
*edit* ahh, it must have bent sideways, and snapped off from the sideways force. This wing above the roof is a good setup, but def need some sort of cross bracing on it! Triangles are strong, squares deform.

Re: This is why race cars have big wings
The AMS racing evo had the cables in an X to prevent just this event from happening, seems to have worked. If they were "more hardcore" (and I say that from a non-hardcore standpoint) they would have made their wing stands bolt to the floor of the trunk and go through holes in the trunk lid, then they could have had side bracing inside where you can't see it.

Re: This is why race cars have big wings
There are some ridiculously large wings on autocross cars that do not have side bracing and they flop around all over, I always wonder why they don't put a diagonal bar across them.

Autocross cars also don't travel at 100mph+ very often.

Matt is pointing out that the wings still move around quite a bit and could benefit from additional bracing.
