Quiting Smoking

Well, I finally came to my senses and I am going to quit smoking. I am using that "Chantix" and its been about a week in a half since I started it and I must say its going quite well! All I ever hear about is people calling it the "Miracle Drug" so I thought I'd give it a try. My mom quit with it a person I never saw quiting. Anyone else hear of people quiting with it? It's hard to describe but its looking good! Time to save some money!

Re: Quiting Smoking

Congrats, it's not an easy thing to do. I quit last October after smoking for 13 years. I had tried the gum in the past, but never any patches or pills. This time it was cold tirkey. Mind over matter with some support and motivation from a few great friends who had recently done the same. It really is something you need to control with your mind to really get over.

Re: Quiting Smoking

My wife still smokes occasionally, nothing bugs me more than that. I'd be real happy if they just banned it all together, although that's slowly where we're heading anyways.

Re: Quiting Smoking

I still find it hard when I get upset or pissed about something or just plan had a bad day not to smoke. It's like outside of that I can sit back and be fine, Once some type of shit hits the fan I have that mental state to go back to it. As if its some golden answer to my problems. I hope within the week I will be 100% done!

Re: Quiting Smoking

In the last couple months I've quit smoking for 2 days about 4 times. It's always the weekends when I'm not at work. I love to not smoke when I'm out of work but here it's how I can take a relaxing break. But, When I drink I do smoke. It's how things go out here in the sticks.

Re: Quiting Smoking

I quit 1.5 years ago so I know what it's like. I think quitting is the easy part, it's not smoking again that's tough. Just hang in there and keep a strong mind. I think it's a physical addiction, but for most people a huge part of it is a mental addiction. Stay strong and take it a day at a time and you can get through it.

Re: Quiting Smoking

Can you tell me about this Chantix? Is it a pill?
I took Welbutrin for a while which was said to help in quitting, but i would shake uncontrollably so i stopped taking it. It helped me cut way down, (to almost 3 ciggerettes a day) but it had the effect of exstacy, and after the initial rolling effect my hands would just shake. It is an anti depressant which i think that is what the shaking was all about. So i stopped taking them.

Re: Quiting Smoking

Yeah its a pill, For the first week I took it only once. Now I take one in the morning and the evening. It makes me think about it less or desire it less is the best way to describe it. I could smoke like a 1/4 of a smoke and not even want the rest of it. Today is day two of not smoking at all and I still want it but I'm not obsessing about it nearly as much as I use too.
