Engine knocking

My engine have been knocking from my first oil change
i had the car with 25000 miles on it
i took it to a performance shop
and they say that it might be a lifter
one other dude says the same thing
i was thinking about a rod
the knock comes when the engine is cold and once you start it up it knocks
once the engine is warm and being driven for 30 min it stops
but once in a while it comes back again (a on and off thing)
i try changing oil using different one.
need help
(420a motor)

Re: Engine knocking

Yeah, probably just lifter tick. What kind of oil and filter are you running? My DSM's have always ticked with Mobil 1.

Re: Engine knocking

My eclipse was ticking with synthectic. I changed it and now i'm using Castrol Syntec, with a Mitsubishi Oil Filter. I also hear that Rotella is a pretty good with Dsm's.

Re: Engine knocking

Redline is a good product to use if your thinking of sticking with synthetic. Lse sells a good line of their products.

Re: Engine knocking

Change out your lifters for some 2g ones, or get them off a kia like I did. bigger pinholes, allowing for better flow. All you need is to get a tool to compress your valves, and the rocker slides right out. Takes about half an hour to swap them all.

Re: Engine knocking

How much does it cost to change out the lifters?
How do you do it to by the way because i have no clue of how to fix it myself. Any help with it will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Where do i get Redline oil?
Does LSE only have it or I can get it somewhere else?

Re: Engine knocking

I used a friend's tool that prys against the camshaft to depress the valvesprings a little bit-enough to release tension off the rockers, to pull them out, and remove the lifters. It's not hard at all. And, the tool prys against the "rough" surface on the camshaft, and NOT the used surfaces, like the lobes. It's really not hard to do at all.

Re: Engine knocking

Before you go swapping lifters try a different oil (Shell Rotella-T or Chevron Supreme 10W-30 is my recommendation if you want a conventional oil, or Castrol Syntec or Redline if you go synthetic); and definitely use a Mitsu filter.

*edit* Use whatever weight is recomended in your owner's manual, I said 10W-30 based on the 4G63 engine.

Re: Engine knocking

Thanks for all the tips.
I try using different types of oil first before checking on the lifters.
