evo 8 or 9..what to do!
I'm pretty close in getting an evo 8 or 9. I'm aiming toward a new 9 but I been reading allot of dealer bs behind warranty work. For 30k car, I would hope mitsu would be a little more freindly with mods. I still owned my 2g eclipse and I still remember Kline threaten to void my warranty from the recall on lower ball joint years ago. Their bs was for minor mods i.e. cai, rims... After that, I never took my 2g for repair work because of the dealer bs. Is it better to find a used evo 8 with 40-50k miles for 18-19k? Save 1/2 the cost of the new one. Or start off with a new car and don't need to worried about someone's headache?
Any input will help. Thanks!

Re: evo 8 or 9..what to do!
Better off buying one that's already out of warranty. That way you don't have to stress about it. And the 10k you'll save by not buying the 9 will result in a smaller payment or more money for go fast goodies. Seriously, if you are strong up on the warranty of getting a new EVO and getting set to mod it right away you are just asking for headaches.

Re: evo 8 or 9..what to do!
If I bought one of the current EVO's (which I seriously considered) it would have been either a new or barely used IX. Warranty or not, too many dumbasses out trashing these cars for me to feel comfortable buying a used one with more than just a few thousand miles.

Chris you make a very good point. Buying one with 30-50k miles will probably need some type of repairs. Such as the clutch replacement.

Not to mention it seems like a poor driver can trash the synchros VERY quickly.

Hell, a brand new one is going to need a clutch replacement after 10k miles anyway.

Re: evo 8 or 9..what to do!
I'd probably sell my IX MR for $30K if you're interested. That'd be just enough to turn around and get a IX RS. Nothing major wrong with my MR (over $40K into it, after taxes, suspension, clear bra, etc), but the RS will be slighlty better for AutoX.
I also have a buddy locally who's selling his VIII MR. It's had a few minor incidents lately, but it would be a good one to pick up. He runs AutoX with me in the STU class which means no major engine mods and stock boost.

For30k, I would buy a new one completely stock. Knowing that I have a clean slate to work with. If I buy a used one, I will probably will look to pay about $18k and under 55kmiles.

Where are you finding them for 18k? I have only found one evo ever for 18k. It was a white one, beautiful, very few mods, and had 60k on it.

Re: evo 8 or 9..what to do!
Here is this one for almost 20k but I'm sure it could go for 18-19k.
I also saw some on evom for 17-18k and my neighbor's brother in law is trying to sell his for 17k. But I'm trying to buy local cars and really not interested in any cars more then 5hours away.

Re: evo 8 or 9..what to do!
You are not going to find a clean unmolested Evo for less than 20. Just isnt going to happen.
If you do, it will have 50k on it and has probably been modded and returned to stock.

Re: evo 8 or 9..what to do!
OMFG if I was in the market (ie if we were just a few months away) that Yellow Evo would be mine, that thing looks mint and perfect.
Since we aren't and I must wait about a 100 days before I should acquire one, I'm gonna go with a Evo IX MR. I'm looking for a low mileage one for < 30,000 dollars. Too many fucking wankers out there for me to worry about a high mileage one. If I'm gonna spend that kind of money the shit better be in perfect shape.

I knew there was something wrong here. The last EVO similar to this sold at the auction for $22K. I got out at $21.9K. They just don't sell that cheap around here yet, and they are fairly hard to find as well.

^^that is the only thing that is a negative about not knowing the personal history of the car unless you know the previous owner.

Re: evo 8 or 9..what to do!
I would get an Evo VIII MR. Not that I have anything against MIVEC, but I hear that some people actually swap out the MIVEC head for the Evo VIII non-mivec head. Plus an VIII would be cheaper and I like the way they look better.

I've heard of even more people selling their VIII's for the IX. At BPU levels the IX makes more power dollar for dollar. But if you plan to go nuts with the mods, then yeah, might as well get an VIII.
