What oil and filter are you using and why?

I was told to only use a mitsu filter by several people. Why is this??? The napa filter I have on my car is larger than the stocker. Why would we want a smaller filter? How is a mitsu oil filter better on lifter tick? I dont see how this works as it only filters the oil. Does it let more through?

Thanks in advance, John.

use any filter you want. just change it when its dirty. my mitsu filters keep the oil clean about 1000 miles longer than a napa filter.

its just an oil filter :stick:

Move to the Gold's, they ARE diffrent. Made by WIX. My new Grand Am has a light that turns on, it keeps track of temps, revs, milage ect. and according to other people normaly turns on in the 7k range. Oil has improved greatly since the 3k bench mark was set.

i use napa filters and napa oil. i heard a rumor about fram filters sumtimes causing higher oil pressure. So ya, plus napa is cheap and their oil is Valvoline just sold under their name, and im all about cheap. I'm not going to start using synthetic because i heard its a bad thing to start using using synthetic on a high mile car that hasn't been using synthetic in the past. And im sure the guy who owned this thing before me didn't use synthetic by the looks of things.

That reminds me, should I swap my 1g to synthetic? It has somewhere around 130k miles.

No. And havent we already had like 2 threads about oil and filters? I believe we have but Im not searching for it.'

Im done with mobile. It seeps right past my gaskets which are 10k miles old, now I hae to redo them all. Pan and turbo line seals.

Im going back to Castrol synthetic. With a mobil filter or mitsu.

I remember one thread a while back but I also want to know how a stock filter sends more oil to the head (preventing/helping lifter tick). Everyone tells me to use the smaller mitsu filter than the larger napa filter. I wanted to know why.

Its because the Mitsu filter has a better check valve in it so it helps with oil pressure. Thats the filter I use with Valvoline Full Synthetic oil. I had some lifter tick and with brand new oil in the car I put on a Wix filter and it still ticked. Then I used a Mitsu filter that Jet had at home and it almost went away totally just by changing that so it made me a believer. Its one of those times when size doesn't matter.

OEM mitsu filter.
Mobil 1 full synthetic
why? cause everything else is junk
I like oem filters for the check valves, and if mobil is good enough for the top factory race teams, good enough for me.

'94 Talon: Rotella-T oil with Mitsu filter

'91 Talon (beater): SuperTech (Wal-Mart's brand) oil and filter

I personally do not believe in synthetic oils...changing convention every 3k is just fine, even that is overkill to be completely honest (with normal street driving). I use Rotella since it is a heavy duty conventional oil specially designed for turbo aplications.

The check valve in the OEM filters prevents oil from draining out of the head and back into the oil pan once you turn the engine off.
