Home Brews to get you un sick?

Anyone ever put together their own medical brews that seem to have worked wonders on bad colds and even the flu?

After being a bit under yesterday at work Jana and I went to Benihanna's for supper in which I was thinking their soup would do the trick and help kick my cold. Along with help from a nice Capt'n N Coke.

Well everything went downhill last night and I'm at home dying. So I'm waiting for the little lady to bring home some grub since I don't have a car to go shopping myself.

And now I was curious if anyone had any home brewing tips?

WTF, I'm sick too! It sounds like you have it worse though, so I'm ok with that. Spicy food seems to clear your sinuses pretty well. Just open up a can of jalepeno's (not black olives) and go to town. Other than that, it's just a mixture of Thera-flu, alkaseltzer, Vitamin C, Zinc, and Echinasia.

I'm thinking about mixing up an Gin in Alkaseltzer right now.

Do a couple of shots of Wild Turkey and go to bed. Works everytime.

Oh yeah, I'm dying here. Jana's home with the Soup and Ice Cream but she forgot all the cold medicine and 7up.

I'm tempted to try downing a bottle of A1 steak sauce.

My $0.02 on staying away from illness....

-Take vitamins and/or supplements. Personally I only take natural vitamins versus lab created shit. My vitamins are produced by Standard Process: http://www.standardprocess.com/index.asp
-Drink lots of OJ
-A cup of coffee won't hurt ya because of the anti-oxidants it contains.
-If you have a sore throat, chest cold, etc, forgot about throat drops and all that fun stuff. I try my best to only use Sasco Aloe-Lyptus creme as it does wonders the above and colds in general.
-Avoid processed foods and fast food (preservatives in general if possible).
-Eat lots of fruit, especially apples.
-Drink lots of water. I have started carrying a water bottle with me throughout the day and I'd venture to guess that I'm drinking at least 1 gallon of water each day now.
-Quit smoking

Echinacea, vitamin C, and zinc are the best things to take while you're sick or about to get sick. They boost your body's immune system. Then, make yourself a hot toddy (scotch, some water, honey, and a slice of lemon heated up) and settle in.

Re: Home Brews to get you un sick?

You guys saw the condition I was in this past weekend, I was even worse on Sunday and Monday. Monday during the day I bought some 1000mg vitamin C pills and took one during the day. I woke up Tuesday feeling 10 times better. Took another one yesterday and feel even better today. By FAR the biggest improvement ever in recovering from an illness.

Jana, get me some Flinstones Vitamins STAT! Or some major vitamin C and some scotch.

I'm gonna try getting rid of all the bad with the effects of a can of black olives.

If I got you all sick, I'm sorry. But remember, you guys are the ones who wanted me to come play cards.

How big is that pill!? I got the 800mg thinking I was getting more for my $$ and dang, I'm afraid I'm gonna choke.

Heres what i do for congestion, its gross but Its the absolute cheapest most effective thing I've ever done in a life time of seasonal allergies.

Mix 1/4 tea spoon salt & baking soda into warm water (as warm/hot as you can stand) I use a dixie cup. Then take a plastc syringe/whatever and spray that crap up your nose, don't inhale it, but get it up there.

The "nose candy" works by washing out the snot obviously but also clears out things your allergic to that are just sitting there for you to breath in over and over again. The salt also helps swolen pores too.

I've taken pills a LOT bigger than these. Wash it down right away so it doesn't get stuck and you're golden.

Re: Home Brews to get you un sick?

Don't over do it with the vitamins, they'll hurt more than they'll help if taken in too large of quantities. Your body can only handle so much at a time. Eat a regular healthy diet and the pills are worthless. Milk and orange juice go a long way. If you aren't eating healthy, take a regular multi-vitamin with minerals tablet everyday and you'll be as good as you can get.

I thought that you quit smoking???
anyway usually the worse the shit taste (home made cold stuff) the better it is at getting you better. lol.
cold ease cough drops also help alot because they contain some type of meds as well as something to stop coughing though they don't taste great. not too bad though.
goodluck and get well!

Re: Home Brews to get you un sick?

I havn't quit smoking yet. I haven't smoked since 6am monday morning though, and I hope t o keep it that way this time.

This is really kicking my ass. Bad cough, shortness of breath, changing from being ice cold to buring hot in seconds. It just fucking blows.

I think I've gone through a few gallons of OJ in the last day or 2 as well.
