MN and Car Titles
As kind of a spin off on my Talon for sale thread anyone know why they take so fucking long to get a title out? What the process is and if it's just man power why they don't just hire a few more people?
It's in the 8 week range for me waiting to get my title for my car so I could actually sell it. Now some say it will be another 4-5 weeks.

Re: MN and Car Titles
They were out to almost 4 months for a bit, then they got way better. I got the title for my bike in 6 weeks. Now it sounds like they are getting way out there again. I am not sure if this shutdown involved the title processing or not, it kind of seems like it though.

Re: MN and Car Titles
I'm sure the shutdown has most to do with it. Government slowed down and now they have to get caught up again.
I feel sorry for the guys at the testing facilities the first week back on the job.

Re: MN and Car Titles
I was told it was going to take about 3 months for my talons title. That was in May, before the shutdown, so it was already like this before the shutdown took place. It's been 2 months now, still no title for it. Just gotta live with it I suppose.

Re: MN and Car Titles
Last summer the state was like 12 weeks behind, no ryhme or reason. I work with titles quite a bit and if I here how backed up they are now I'll let you know. There's always the two people that submit there titles at the same time, one gets his title in like three weeks and the other takes the full 12.

Re: MN and Car Titles
Why did you have to stare at your 2g for 6 weeks? Because you didn't have a title for it? It it was tranferred and you had it insured, you could drive it. You don't necessarily have to have the title in your hand to drive a vehicle. As long as everything is set in motion, it doesn't matter.

Re: MN and Car Titles
Is there any way to sell the car to a person if you don't have the title yet? Then give them the title as soon as you get it?

well 1) supposidly the place that had the title lost it. 2) my parents didnt want to get it insured until the title came to save money i guess 3) i had to sell my other car first ( ford probe gt) *gag*

Yes. When I got the 2G they didn't have the title on hand so there was actually 2 other state forms that can be filled out to take the place of the title itself while waiting. That's all I know.

Re: MN and Car Titles
Well when I bought my GVR4 they had said they were 12-14 weeks out on titles. I got the title in just under 3 weeks. Don't know why.

Re: MN and Car Titles
The State sure varies a lot on titles. I've waited up to eight weeks for a title. On the other extreme, when I bougt my Stealth in 2000, I got the title in one week!!! I was so stunned I called up the Twilight Zone to make sure I was still on planet Earth.
later,
Curt

I also submitted the title for my talon in May to be switched from Nevada to MN. Still haven't gotten it.

Sorry, this doesn't apply to private party sales. These two forms are the PS2000 and the Supplemental Dealer Reassignment forms, both are used by dealers since a title doesn't necessarily come with the car on the day of sale.
The answer is that you can sell the car without the title, but the buyer takes a pretty big risk of not getting the title from the seller if they are a private party. If you're good friends with the seller and you trust them, than it's no big deal unless you need tabs, in which case you need a title or at least a copy of it to get tabs. Horror stories related to this would be that Joe Blow sells a car without the title because he took out a loan against it and it has a lien. The seller figures this out when the seller never produces a title or it can't be transferred until the lien is satisfied.
Dealers are watched pretty closely, so your chances of problems with a dealer as far as title transfer is concerned are very minimal. You have the backing of the state when buying from us clowns.

Re: MN and Car Titles
What ever you do when filling out a title don't screw any thing up it's not fun filling out correction forms especially when the original owner is long gone.
