Cops all over & a ticket was given!
Jana and I where on our way home tonight and as we drove on 94 westbound by ELite at around 8pm we noticed that cops where fucking everywhere. Jana was clocked and pulled over for going 58 in a 55. But the real reason I knew right when I saw the clock that was clocking us, I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. Jana was but he still got me. So there is a nice $88 bucks I'll never get back. lol
I was pretty reluctant to every wear my seat belt. I'm one of those guys that just doesn't feel comfortable in them. But the law is the law and we got hit tonight. There was about a dozen marked and un-marked cops in the mile or so area. More than I have ever seen before. And this was just westbound.

That is a big sting. They must of had a slow 4th and felt they needed to make up for it befor the end of the month.

Re: Cops all over & a ticket was given!
cops will be cops. No reason to hate. Although, 3 miles over is fucking ridiculous, I never blame them for doing their job. If they can keep drunk drivers off the streets by pulling over anyone doing anything wrong, thats fine by me. And yes this has happened to me. They have a job to do and we should support them for doing so. They keep us " safe " and risk their lives everyday. I respect them. 3 over though, damn though. Sorry for you and jana.

Allan, didn't you get pulled over for going 1mph over and got a seatbelt ticket before?

Re: Cops all over & a ticket was given!
I think it's bullshit that we HAVE to wear our seatbelts. I generally wear it all the time on the major highways but never in town. It's bullshit, we have to wear our seatbelts but motorcycle drivers don't have to wear their helmets? WTF!!!
Btw- i got pulled over tonight too. Super nice cop. It was in town and i had just took off from a stop. It was a 30mph zone and he told me i was speeding pretty bad. I think it was the BOV going off and turbo spooling noise that made him think i was. I said no i wasn't, wanna see? I had dsmlink with me, logging because i'm resetting the injector deadtime. I just happened to be logging speed and i played it back for him. I felt so powerful. I popped the hood and showed him the powerplant and he just loved the car. At the end, he said he was just looking for drunk drivers.
Gotta love the 'ol Link.
PS- getting pulled over for 3mph is completely bullshit for them to do! Probably over 90% of all speedometers are at least 2-3mph off. Mine is! My Grand Am is at least 4mph off according to the portable roadside mph things they setup once in awhile.

not going to try and start a debat here, but I thought there was the whole seatbelt saves your life kinda thing? Maybe it is a law because they don't want to see people die from otherwise non-fatal accidents. Or they just doing want to scrape you off the pavement later. Also I think is required that motorcyclists wear a helmet, but similar to the seatbelt law, it is not very well enforced

Re: Cops all over & a ticket was given!
I am pretty sure that they can pull you over for not wearing a seatbelt in itself. I was in a car that was pulled over minutes ago for going 37 in a 30 (he said) and turning from the turn lane into the right lane throught the intersection. He was looking for drunk drivers ofcourse and let us off. The first question he asked was: have any of you been drinking tonight?

Re: Cops all over & a ticket was given!
You cannot be pulled over for just a seatbelt violation. There has to be another reason. Also, there is not a helmet law in MN anymore. You just have to have eye protection of some sort for motorcyclists. I am glad we took a cab home tonight, it was well worth the $20 I paid!!! Downtown ownz Andy!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!

Re: Cops all over & a ticket was given!
They just did change the Law and made seatbelt violations, a "Primary Offense" to which they can now pull you over for only not wearing one.
Seat Belt Primary Offence Passes House Committee
On March 29, the House Transportation Policy Committee passed HF 1087 (Powell-Burnsville), making failure to wear a seat belt a primary offence. This would allow police officers to stop and ticket a driver solely for not wearing a seat belt. Current law only allows ticketing the driver if he or she was stopped for another violation.

Damn, I didn't know they changed it! They can now pull you over for, "Oh, I didn't see your seatbelt."

Re: Cops all over & a ticket was given!
it doesnt really matter why they pull you over. They could say you jerked a little bit. How can you prove them wrong? Dont speed and wear your seatbelt. Its not that difficult or painful. Might even save a life maybe.

Re: Cops all over & a ticket was given!
Needless to say, I was pissed and AJ will be wearing his seatbelt at all times with me. This was only the second time in my life that I have been pulled over, and I was freaking out.
On a side note, I could not believe the number of cops. I think it was more than a dozen. The cop that pulled us over also got the person next to us, so he had two cars alone. There were so many others pulled over, it was unreal.
BTW, I did not get a ticket for the 3 mph over.... only AJ got a ticket.

Re: Cops all over & a ticket was given!
If you where ever wondering no front plate tickets cost $82, a state trooper issued me one a couple of weeks back. I also got a speeding ticket a week later the cop thought I was squealing my tires (external dump o2) I tried to explain to him that I really can't squeal my tires because my car was awd, I also got a field sobrity test because I told the cop I had a beer like 4hrs prior which was true, Oh well I did the crime and I paid the fine.

Re: Cops all over & a ticket was given!
Why is it mandatory to wear our seatbelts? Well I think i mentioned this on here before on another topic but several years ago had my brother been wearing his seat belts he'd most likely not been around today. He was a passenger in a car and another speeding car smucked his side broadside. The impact was so hard the it forced the passenger seat nearly 1/2 way under the drivers seat. Most of the passenger area was pushed over to the driver area. He hasn't worn them to this day since then.
Oh- you guys should see my front plate. I have slotted brackets mounted to the back side of the bumper that under the cover. I trimmed the bottom of the lic plate right up to the edge of the letters/numbers. The cop was cool with it. All i gotta do is get out of the car and push it up for race mode and pull it down 3" or so for highway mode. Looks awesome!!!!! I designed it so there are no pins needed to lock it in place or anything. Push or pull = DONE. I've had alot of compliments on it.

Re: Cops all over & a ticket was given!
Seatbelts are much like motorcycle helmets; they'll save you 90% of the time but 10% of the time you might sustain more injuries than w/o (figures are aprox). I go with the odds and keep wearing my belt and keep wearing my helmet. I think it would be very fair for insurance rates to rise for anyone given a seatbelt ticket, involved in a car crash w/o wearing a belt, or involved in a motorcycle accident while not wearing a helmet. On a side note, I was in a car accident about 5 years ago (I was sitting in the backseat), and had I been wearing my seatbelt my head would not have smashed out a window nearly slicing my ear off (a tiny flap of skin was all that was keeping it dangling there, they stitched it back on but I have a scar).
