Have a problem

Well, I was out an about two nights ago and I pulled into a parking lot to mess with my phone. So I am sitting there, Lights are on, radio is going, heat is on a little, then all of a sudden... DEAD all the power just was gone, Car shuts off all lights, radio it was pretty much like I didnt even have a battery in the car. So I sat there for a second in complete awe popped the hood, get out and look at the connections on the battery everything was fine. I go back and sit in my car with the door open thinking wtf just happened? I try to turn it over and not even a single sound. So after about 10 minutes of figuring out how I am getting my car home at 3AM the dash lights, head lights all come on and the damn automatic seat belts smacks me in the back of the head due to the door being open. I was like umm.. I didnt do anything.. I turn the key and the damn thing started up and has been fine ever since.. Anyone have any idea what the hell happened?

Re: Have a problem

I am quite sure this is the work of the DSM gnomes. They are crafty little bastards!

Have you replaced the caps in the ECU? It might be a good time to check them out. The only other thing I can think of is the main relay freaked, but I don't think the seat belts are operated on the main relay.

Re: Have a problem

Bad ground? I just fixed a Kia today, that had the same thing happen. The next time it acts up, use a jumper wire from the battery (-) to the eng. The connection may look tight and good but pull hem apart and clean them .

Re: Have a problem

Yup, I was a victom of similar bull shit. Car was running great. Pulled into a DQ and went inside. Came back out and dead as a rock. I was fucking stumped. Som eguy came by in a truck and tightened up the actual terminal on the battery which I moved around and all seemed good enough. They where and it fired right up. As honda cracka said, once... and never again.

Re: Have a problem

Yea I had it happen also. It ended up being poor connections on the battery terminals. Clean them up and get rid of the oxidization. Those connectors are touchy.

Same happened to me; happened a few times on my 1g and a few times on my 2g. Battery was fuct in my 2g, so when I replaced it, I replaced the ground terminals that connect to the battery at the same time. No problems since.

That happened to my roomates (9guy9) 96 tsi, the whole loom going into the main relay/fuse box under the hood melted itself together. I'm not sure how many wires he had to cut and splice but he didn't sound to happy about it when he told me the story. Pretty scary though, the car died when he was crusing on the highway at night.

Re: Have a problem

It's Definatly the battery terminals, thats why u always carry a hammer, Or like "EclipseTurbo" said, you could fix it the right way and clean them up, cause then it won't keep doing it.
