Question ARP Head bolt question

I'm getting ARP head bolts for my '99 GSX. Pretty much any place that sells, is at $100-110(for 2g ARP). However, Summit has them Part# ARP-207-4203 for $75.69. Any place that i normally go through can't believe that price. 1g's are usually that where 2g's are in the hundred range. I just called Summit and he verified the price. They're probably the only place in the U.S. that has them that cheap. Price mismatch?

Anyway, He said they are 11mm with a 12 point nut. Is that right? Do they use nuts? The stock ones are a regular bolt with a head on it. Just want to make sure i'm ordering the right thing here.

Thanks for any help! I want to order these ASAP before this guy at Summit goes and tells his supervisor that the price may be wrong.

Re: ARP Head bolt question

That's not a summit fuck up. They buy so much fucking ARP shit at a time that there is no one (except maybe JEGs) that can compete with those prices. For the extra money though I would still drive to a local shop and pick them up same day and be able to see exactly what I am getting.

Give Elite a call. I just bought some from there a few weeks ago, they were like 85 dollars or something. Just call the day before you want them and they will get them for you if they don't have them in stock. And I agree, stay local unless there is a huge difference in price.

Re: ARP Head bolt question

You got them for a 1G, there is a pretty big jump in price on the set for the 2Gs craig.

You sure? Just for an example Automotorsports has them for 95 dollars a set and it doesn't matter if its a 1G or 2G according to their site. I couldn't any info off the local shops sites on them so I used this as an example.

Then AMS is making a "slight" profit on the the 2G ones, and a larger profit on the 1G ones. But they are different in sizes and pricing. I bought enough of those fuckers for various engines while at QPR.

Yeah I know they are different, but I just don't think the price is that much different to worry about. Maybe 10 bucks more or something. I would still check with Elite or QPR, they both carry them and have decent prices on them.

The ARP's are studs, not bolts like the stockers. So yes, you are ordering the right thing.

Re: ARP Head bolt question

The diameter and nut size is close, but not quite, the stud diameter is 11MM like you said, the factory bolt size uses a 12MM wrench, but the ARP stud in this case uses a 1/2" 12 PT. I wouldn't use a 13mm on it either as they are a hair larger and with a 12 pt at that torque setting, depending on how decent your tools are, you could strip it. I have seen it done with crap tools.

As for the price, there is a definate Jump in price for the 7 bolt, we sell them more for a service if someone needs them and don't make squat off them, the 6 bolts are considerably less money to buy and through the same local src, there is over a $20 difference. Summit buys a ton like AJ Mentioned, they're doing really good on that price. That is way less than we pay for them even. I am glad you mentioned that, I may just get them there from now on.

BTW, the 6 bolts studs at least are on backorder from the company. The last set (this week) had to be trucked up from TX from our usual supplier. It was the only place in the country they had any left.

Re: ARP Head bolt question

Some things that Summit sells, like the ARP stuff, go for on their site for less than what our wholesale cost is at.

Re: ARP Head bolt question

Thanks for the tremendous feedback. I'm probably just gonna get those through Summit then. I don't have any local shops. Local for me is over 2 hours drive time. I do my Mitsu business through Chris at Brookdale Mitsu though. I don't think i could get the parts any faster than he gets him to me. 2 hours away and they're at my doorstep the day after i order.

Thanks again.
