Swapmeet or yardsale event.
Hey Mitustyle members,
I have been thinking about hosting or creating an annual event, maybe even twice a year, in which I rent or find a facility/parking lot whatever, and sell or trade parts in bulk etc. I know that MAP had a swap meet but I realize that most of us don't like having to pay money to get in just to maybe sell something in a confined space or with people we don't always trust or know. I am up for organizing everything. I just would like to know how many of you think this would be helpful to clear out the shed of all the parts you don't need or want and maybe find the stuff you've been looking for. Also, when this event should happen I.E. spring & fall, or summer & winter? Give me ideas or thoughts. I won't take anything personally I just want to help out and would love the opportunity for the community to have the ability to grow and enjoy ourselves and get some business done at the same time.

Id vote fall for time frame. So people have parts for winter projects.

Re: Swapmeet or yardsale event.
I tried to somewhat start something like that at the Cookout but Curt didn't exactly like the idea. It's too bad as I have more parts than I really need.
If we could get something going in a convenient location that'd be awesome. This year yet too would be cool but whatever works.

It would be cool to get together and sell some parts. Mabey people would be more willing to trade in that type of environment too. it would also be a good excuse to BBQ and have a drink.

Re: Swapmeet or yardsale event.
I can certainly understand that it wouldn't be a good fit at a cookout or even cruises. I think the fall timing would be prime and maybe branch into spring as well if it was feasable and worth it. I'll be looking into some space and location that works well for everybody. But I think a BBQ and drinks would be a fantastic addition. I will do some thinking and keep you all posted but keep chiming in I appreciate the feedback.
P.S. I think I'll look into bringing a number or tools and maybe even rallying any trailers etc so that shells, and larger stuff can be traded (members will have to work together ahead of time on this) and some other testing equipment for electronics, shocks, compression gauges, whatever helps people feel more comfortable and safe in that environment. I like to think we can be honest and trustworthy but most importantly have a way of even discovering if what our own stuff is, is still good or not if we never even knew or used it.

Re: Swapmeet or yardsale event.
I have stuff to get rid of. But to be honest dealing with the lowballing scum that is 90% of the DSM scene I'd rather just throw stuff in the trash and not have any time invested.

I can certainly relate to that since I've been there before and I think we all have. If it makes it worth it to you or anybody who aren't willing or want to deal with people, I could have a community pile of donated or gifted parts that the proceeds go to Mitsustyle funds for future events and such. This way you'll still benefit from ridding parts and not have to partake in the transactions? Idk just a suggestion. Unfortunately though, most people who want money for parts are going to have to be there first hand and conduct their own business to avoid complex sales and just make the whole thing smaller. The more people there in person the more accountable everybody is at a face to face level. Meeting people makes a big difference and hopefully this atmosphere won't be sketchy and scummy like craigslist parts cars can be...
I was thinking of setting up a SUNDAY IN OCTOBER THIS FALL for a first trial.

Here is the main question. Does anyone actually want to buy all our old crap?

Re: Swapmeet or yardsale event.
No one is really buying dsm parts any more. I just held on to stuff I could use my self or sell. When we moved I got rid of 2 truck loads of dsm parts to the scrap yard. Moved them all from maple grove to plymouth. Then did not want to do it a 2nd time when we moved to the other side of plymouth.

Re: Swapmeet or yardsale event.
I still have a handful of things I need for the race car, and only have marginal luck with WTBs on this site.
