I always wanted one, wish I would have ditched the DSM platform and moved on to them.

Re: Opinions on the 3000gt/stealth

They are getting more rare as the years go on and people crash them and part them out. They require way more money and mods to get the same amount of power out of a dsm. I love them, heavy cars. Handle really good. If your looking I have a buddy up here that is thinking of selling his 3000gt vr4 I think its a 1991.

I see them for sale quite often, generally the AWD ones are in pretty good shape still, unlike most DSM's these days.

I want a blue Stealth to match my blue Talon. Personally I like the Stealth appearance better than the 3000gt but that's just me.

Go check out Curt Gendron's, probably the nicest 3s collection in the country right here in town.

I also wish I would of gotten into those instead of DSMs, a lot more sexy and comfy.
Power can be made, and I'll take less power for comfort anyway.
A lot more pleasant to drive.

And way more expensive and slow. It would fit for what I like now, but not back when I wanted to go fast.

If you want to talk about performance. Talk to josh aka swanny. Or john (lse performance)
They built a sick stealth. But if I remember correctly they were having headgasket issues over 700awhp. Amd there was an issue with I think the t-case being a weak point thay they were dpimg R@D to find a way to upgrade it or something like that.

There has been a few down here in the south for sale over the past two months.
One was really modified about 500whp

Issue was the exhaust side of the heads were pushing up at higher than around 700awhp, that has been fixed and is a $500 upgrade at most shops that know how to pin the cylinder heads. Transfer case is cast aluminum, billet and cast stainless housings exist (around $1000).

Only "issue" with the 3/s is the fact that since they are a twin turbo V6, parts are more expensive. 6 pistons and 6 rods versus 4, 2 turbos (most of the time) versus 1, you start at 3800lbs and a true GT car versus 3000lbs and an econocar. Another issue is availability of Getrag transmission parts and the lack of aftermarket support compared to the DSM's. If you aren't trying to build a race car and want a street car, 3/s > DSM.

That being said, getting them to 500awhp with true bolt-ons is not really hard anymore. 500 isn't what 500 was even 3 years ago, so it just depends upon what you want in life. Keep in mind they were around $40k new.

Thanks Steve!

If you are looking to go fast on a budget then a DSM is still the better way to go. A 3/S is better as a street car that can go pretty fast and still be a comfy ride.

later,
Curt
