To who may have blown a tranny or scared they may blow one

I dont know why any of the respected tranny rebuilders never tell anyone this, maybe for job security.........

It is very important to replace motor mounts when making good power, especially with our 15+ year older cars that have worn mounts.

It is a good idea to replace them with stiffer mounts as normal mounts or worn out mounts will cause engine shake, and when it shakes it releases and applies engine load on and off fast. This can cause gear chatter with high load! It like taking an air impact to your gears, not cool.

Just thought id share this to help our commnity a bit as it seems these tranny's can get the best of us!

Good point. The front and rear mounts are the problematic mounts when it comes to the unnecessary stress placed on the trans that you are mentioning more so than the left and right mounts.

Agreed. Even for clutch engagement and normal driving, solid poly mounts help so much. I use to get wheel hop with just the two side mounts change out. As soon as I switched the front and rear mounts, absolutely zero wheel hop. It either hooked up or spun the tires, but it was without shaking or violence.

I am a fan of solid torsion mounts on high HP cars. Polys are good for the more DD cars, but chrome moly mounts are easy to make and install for the weekend warriors.

I personally love the mounts john made me for the front and rear of my car. Solid, plated metal, no poly bullshit here. And, it's not that bad for a DD either. (yes, DD over the summer months, since I know someone will be a wise-ass and tell me it's not a DD)

Another thing is a lot of people forget about the 12mm bolt on the back of the trans to the block.

I like this! Good luck with solid motor mounts.... There is a reason why they never put solid mounts in car's besides the vibration

Well that's why they all were advocating the solid mounts.

At the same time too stiff of mounts can cause faster wear on parts. The engine needs to flex sometimes to make it easier on the drivetrain and other components. Too stiff of mounts like solid mounts can cause issues. The car i have now is running full poly mounts, i am not sure i would ever do full solid mounts unless it is a race car where i need every ounce of power to go directly to the drivetrain. However, i do agree with you in the respect that bad mounts especially front and rear can be horrible on the drivetrain and other components more than mounts that are too stiff.

I have poly inserts in mine. Some vibration from stock of course, but holding up great.

Using solid mounts here, no issues and I DD the car. NEED these mounts to be able to floor it in 1st-2nd gear.

Re: To who may have blown a tranny or scared they may blow one

I had all 4 poly mounts on my DSM and it was stupid. On my Evo I have just a poly front motor mount and its perfect for a street car. Nice crisp shifts with very minimal vibrations at idle.

Re: To who may have blown a tranny or scared they may blow one

Every time i have used full poly mounts i have never had issues with vibrations. Lucky i guess. I have heard a lot depends on the balace of the motor, Similar to when you remove your balance shafts.
