Minneapolis offers online forms for complimenting/complaining about police officers

http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/form...itizen-report/

March 26, 2009 (MINNEAPOLIS) The Minneapolis Police Department has created a new online form that makes it very easy for the public to share their feedback, positive or negative, on police officers and the work they do. The MPD is constantly striving to lead the way in law enforcement service and is committed to being a department that serves with integrity and honor. Chief Tim Dolan is pleased with the new accessibility and states that “the largest key to earning our citizens’ trust and support is being accessible, transparent in our operations, and accountable to the public. This new medium for feedback, along with squad cameras, supervisory oversight of pursuits and use of force reviews, makes us much more accountable. These tools have aided in reducing injuries and the associated costs to both officers and arrestees.”

The department encourages the public to share information on notable efforts by officers, as well as complaints of potential misconduct. Having this information allows the MPD to more accurately assess officer performance and make necessary changes more quickly.

The web page allows people to submit compliments for officers or department units they believe have done exceptional work. Any compliments shared by the public will go to the Office of the Chief of Police. They will be placed in the officer’s permanent personnel file and could even result in an award from the Chief. Police Chief Dolan is dedicated to commending his officers and reinforcing good police work, and this new tool helps make that possible.

It’s also critical that the MPD hears about potential misconduct. In Minneapolis, complaints can go to either the Minneapolis Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit or the Minneapolis Civil Rights Civilian Police Review Authority. The online tool allows Web visitors to file complaints with either of those offices.

Awesome. My brother and I actually called 911 last night to report some seriously bad driving by a State patrol.

Two cars were in the left lane, cop in the middle, cop budges in front of someone in the left lane and tailgates the F out of the person in front... so the person in front moves over to the right lane. Cop follows at a dangerously close distance.. then after about a mile, pulls them over. They weren't even doing anything wrong, so I don't understand what they could have been pulled over for. Wtf.

Cities like Maple Grove needs this but they'd be too busy with all the complaints.

I see them do that shit all the time. They tailgate so you will speed. Once you speed up they pull you over.

It's also so that you will look in your mirrors at them and swerve, therefore a reason to get pulled over.

Re: Minneapolis offers online forms for complimenting/complaining about police office

Thats what the 60-0 challenge is for, when they are tailgating. "I swear I saw a cat officer, I couldnt stand the thought of killing a animal!"

I guess I havent had too many problems with Minneapolis cops. They have honostly always been on the lookout for me whenever I have had to deal with them. They have pulled me over when I was fishin down at calhoun but I did look suspicious in the vehicle I was in. I didnt get a ticket and I even ended up thanking them for being on the lookout (lots of cars being "borrowed" without return in the area). I know there is always a bad apple but for the most part they are just trying to keep it clean out there. Im glad they are accepting some feedback openly now. It seems like they are taking a step ahead with that move.

Too bad the major burbs dont do that. It would be interesting to see the feedback they get.
