RANT - Fedex home delivery
Geez.
I missed the guy by 10 min. so I see this door tag. I called the Fedex 800 number and they said there is no way to get a hold of the delivery person since it's a subcontract service. WTF!
Why can't you get a hold of them to tell them that you can pick it up somewhere? or they can try again today?
Give me a UPS shipment anyday compared to this sorry excuse of a shipping company FEDEX.
Just wanted to rant since I took the day off so I can wait for the delivery and install it on the car. arrrgh!

Re: RANT - Fedex home delivery
I'm glad I have an office to take my deliveries. One FedEx package arrived yesterday and I should have another on Friday I do prefer UPS though, signature-required stuff is stupid unless its a very high-dollar item.

Re: RANT - Fedex home delivery
I got the FedEx delivery man's number. . He had to call me when he went to drop off my TRE trans. He must be a juicer.
UPS man knows where I work so I get the stuff I have to sign for dropped off at work. Nothing better than having an FP turbo sitting on your desk at work. (we only have 2 delivery men for UPS that come to this small town, so they're easy to find.)

Re: RANT - Fedex home delivery
I have everything delivered to work. The person in receiving calls or emails me, or even delivers it right to my desk. For companies that don't allow shipping to addresses other than the billing address, they can eat a big one.

I think leaving your phone number in any of the Comments box or Contact Details box on your order form would be a good idea, so that if stuff like this happens they can call you.

Re: RANT - Fedex home delivery
I ship a lot of stuff with fedex but just because I get 80% 2nd day air from them.
I cant stand my ups driver he just drops the stuff off at the front door or in the garage if it is open and never gets a sig for the boxes.

I just don't like the idea that you're supposed to be able to track the packages but they can't even tell you who is delivering it. Just a bad deal in my opinion. I'm definitely going shy away from Fedex for these type of deliveries.

Re: RANT - Fedex home delivery - RAVE
RANT over... now it deserves a RAVE!
I decided to call FEDEX again and explain the situation. I asked Fedex if I can at least schedule to pick it up at their depot so I don't have to take another day off. (just too busy) They called the local delivery people and they called me back after 5 minutes to see if I can meet in 20 min at a certain location. Heck yeah!
Props to Fedex for really attempting to contact the local home delivery group and for the customer service person that helped me on that. Props to the local Fedex home delivery group for calling and meeting me at a location where the driver was passing through anyway.
WOO HOO!
Another lesson learned today - expend energy on actually doing something than complaining about it. :-)

Unless the billing address of your corporate card is your home address as well...
I prefer that everyone just ships me stuff through USPS because then when I have to pick it up, the post office is just a couple minutes away. With UPS I have to drive to Maple Grove, and FedEx I have to drive to St. Paul. I'm never around to pick up packages that require signing, so I'm pretty much always forced to go to the office. I even had one issue where RRE shipped me something that required a signature, AND they put a NO WILL CALL sticker on the box. So when they'd try to deliver it at noon on a Tuesday, Wed, Thurs all in a row, of course no one's there to sign for it, and I could not go pick it up in person because of the NO WILL CALL sticker. I did all I could, but could not get the box. They ended up shipping it back to RRE, and then RRE had to reship it to me without that sticker. Ridiculous.

RRE has ridiculous shipping policies. You're right about USPS too...just easier.

Sometimes it's cheaper to not make the $20 on the part than to have it stolen and lose the entire cost. The credit card companies are very helpful to the card owners and don't give a fuck about vendors. If someone redirects the package or uses a stolen credit card then the vendor is out the money, not the real owner of the credit card or the credit card company. If someone returns something and you have to do a credit back, then the credit card company hits the vendor both ways for the 2-4% service fee. If someone uses a rewards card, then the credit card company charges the vendor a higher percent rate on the sale, the cc company isn't the one paying the rewards. If someone uses a business card, they charge a higher rate to the vendor. Worst is an Amex corporate card.

I agree. USPS is the best option for me on shipping esp. with a PO Box. They keep the item in the building and I just come and pick it up on the way home.
UPS is not too bad since their depot for my area is less that 5 miles away. Great service too. I even get after hours service if I can't get there in time before they close.
Fedex delivery guys in my area are nice but the way to get a hold of them is crazy - no direct number.

Re: RANT - Fedex home delivery
I have had some really bad experinces with Fed Ex. I had to call them several times to fix an address that they messed up to begin with. They were always really rude to me and told me the same thing, that they cant get a hold of the driver and they can only leave him a message but they dont know if he will even check for messages. I was so mad because I paid for next day delevery and it took them a week to deliver it.
