Helmets
Just wondering if anyone knows a decent place, or has some kind of hookup somewhere, to pick up a snell approved helmet that won't break the bank. I'm looking for a full faced one. Don't care if it's all fancy colored or anything. Just a black helmet would be perfectly fine, as long as it has the right approval ratings, and is somewhat comfortable.
And what all ratings does a helmet need to be legal for 1/4 mile tracks.

Re: Helmets
I normally advise against buying stuff on ebay, but about 4-5 years ago I bought a very nice brand name motorcycle helmet on there. It was the past year model, and I think I got it for about $60-80. I had tried on similar helmets & knew what size fit me, and it has worked out perfect!
I can't remember what brand it was, but its Italian.

Re: Helmets
I got my Helmet from the motorcycle store in osseo. Wasn't the cheapest, but it was last year's model, and it works for track. Sorta heavy, and I would get a different helmet for motorcycle (It's HJC) but I'd rock it for the 1/4!

Re: Helmets
Hah, I'm not at home so I looked through some pics in my gallery to figure out what it was, you can't really see it, just the logo on it.
Something like this, and it's served me well:

Re: Helmets
Brandon, check out the Autocross thread on here and MNSC for links that Shane on MNSC posted up about helmets. I know there was a few local places to get them listed, as well as what numbers work for what events. I think we have some of that info on here as well.
I know I need to get one as well, and one that can be used for Road Racing, Auto X, and Drag Racing for a few years. I was going to hit up Bobs Cycle first.

Re: Helmets
That would be nice, it the deal was right I'd pony up for one sonner rather than later. I need one by Aug 4th for Road America anyway.

Re: Helmets
Got this off the Rockfalls website for the required ratings.
IMPORTANT TECH UPDATE: Effective 1/1/07 Snell 95 Helmets will no longer be valid for use in drag racing. Please check your helmet and if you have a Snell 95 you will need to replace it prior to competing in any competition at any NHRA sanctioned racetrack. The Snell 95 helmets are expired and no exceptions will be made for use of this model of helmet if you are running 13.99 and quicker in the 1/4 mile or 8.59 in the 1/8th mile. Acceptable helmets are the Snell K-98, Snell 2000 and Snell 2005. Please also remind your fellow racers to check their helmets as well!! Thanks.

Re: Helmets
http://www.bobscycle.com/
This is where a lot of the autocross guys go, and where I got mine. The selection is massive and you can get a basic helmet for very cheap. One guy said he got a full faced snell 2005 for under $100.
Open faced snell helmets from $60 on up.
Oh, and they are local. St Paul just off I94. So if you are in the area you can just go in person and save on shipping, plus you know what the snell rating is. When I was there I think he said all of his helmets were Snell2005 but I wouldnt order online without verifying that.

Re: Helmets
I was also going to recommend Bob's cycle supply. Pick something up there on clearance. Dennis Kirk is usually too expensive, but they do have a clearance center if you are heading north on I-35. Ebay is also great, I have bought a few helmets off there.

Re: Helmets
I got my open faced helmet for dirt at bob's, but i plan on doing off roading too.
Um, i have a hook up on helmets, i have to check the price, but i am sure no higher than $60, they are some name brand, my friends dad got them from someone at work, he bought like 6-8 of them thats why they are so cheap.
I will grab a few if some of you are interested, brandon hit me up when you are back home i will get one for you.
