whats with everybodys cars breaking?

Is it just me or are there like 5 different threads about people's dsms not starting or breaking down? Come on guys, you gotta start doing stuff right and quit half-assin it. I know dsms are definitely not the most reliable cars in the world, but if you take your time and do stuff right you should be alright. I just thought I'd point that out haha.

Naw, it's just a matter of making more power. Once you start to get up there, past most of the regular stopping points that a lot of the community stops at (basic 16g or 50 trim, etc) then you will break shit more often-course, this all depends on who built it, how you drive it, who tuned it, etc.

You should also keep in mind how old the cars are. It is not like they are new by any means.

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?

Most the broken cars are stock or just lightly modded I've never once had any of my 5 DSM's (all 1G's) strand me or break down on me, its all about how you take care of them and maintain them.

I am still on my first dsm, and I have had little problems here and there but never anything major.

tman1gtsi- My car is doing fine. Glad you like the setup, its a little outdated though haha.

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?

Believe it or not, some of these are not due to "half-assed" work. These cars are getting up there in age and miles, and if the owner doesn't replace something before it breaks things are bound to go wrong. And I know many of us do preventive maintenance (I for example replaced the entire cooling system on my new car just because, along with the timing stuff because I didn't know when the previous owner had ever done it), and I know many people out there are too lazy, dumb, or just poor to do it.

Right now, I'm falling under the poor category. With the oil pressure gauge line melting through due to the downpipe coming un-bolted, and one of the heater hoses cracking and springing a leak, it's just funny little things that are a pain in the ass.

On the whole though, my car has been pretty damn reliable.

Yea I'm not pointing anybody out, I was just kinda laughing at the fact that we, the dsm community, are totally living up to our name of breaking down all the time haha

Mod your car a little and you will know why they break.

ANY car that you modify to the point that some of our members have, will break under the added stress on the motor itself.
My roomate had a Turbo Integra that he had a shop do the turbo, built the block and head. and had a bunch of other stuff done... He went through 4 blocks, every time he was blowing ring after ring.
The reason honduhs are so reliable is the fact that they were never turbocharged in the first place. but sure enough with a couple go mods (which seems to be few and far between for honduhs) and they will break just like our cars.

Hold up hold up, aren't you the one who had the most "half assed" fmic I've ever seen? The one that incorporated a smic? And you're calling other people out?

yeah, just think about it. Even when some work is done by some people it still isn't right, look how your car arrived here? on multiple occasions.
Old cars, and F&F got to too many people.

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?

Most DSM issues are related to worn out transmissions or half assed installs (mismatched mods, short cuts, bolts/fittings not torqued properly, poor maintenance of worn out parts). If you have been in the game awhile or worked/helped out at a local shop once or twice, half assed it what you find most of the time with issues.

And I'll admit that I have been responsible for most of the issues I have had with my dsm over the years, its a learning experience and I have found that my car had become more and more reliable as I have screwed up and learned what does and doesn't work.

Some mistakes I have made looking back is buying go fast parts more than once (550cc, 660cc, 780cc, 1600cc injectors), shitty turbo (2g20g eliminator). Dealing with shitty vendors and listening to idiots on message boards (turbochagers.com, crooks on trader, dsmtuners) could have skipped a few of those and saved some cash. Buying DSMlink, fuel pumps, injectors, and bigger turbo before replacing worn out motor mounts and suspension which led to drive train issues from increased power and uneven worn tires due to sloppy suspension and just overall scary handling at higher speeds. I am also not ashamed to admit that I probably fucked my 7 bolt up (spun bearing) from prolonged detonation and not dropping the pan to remove blown turbo bearing material back when I was just learning how not to tune a dsm. I'd love to go back 6 years and slap some sense into me, ha.

Only original parts I am still running are my joe p. MBC, boost gauges, air filter setup, and 2g head.

I know that my 265awhp isnt too much to brag about, but I would consider a 50 trim, fuel, and a rebuilt head is considered "modded"

Wow you guys must have just looked at the pictures and never read what I wrote haha. I put the smic on because I needed drive drive 3 miles home from my buddies house so I could store my car in my own garage. That was the most temporary thing ever. And I am not calling anybody out. I haven't once mentioned a single name. I'm just saying that it seems funny that summer just started and all the cars are breaking. A apologize if I hurt anybodies feelings
