Windows Vista...
Does anyone have this or has anyone been tracking the developments in this. From the Microsoft site it looks freakin awesome. Very visually appealing to me. I signed up to get on their beta list. Hopefully i will be sent a version of this soon.
Heres a couple pics from Microsofts site.

Re: Windows Vista...
We're getting it through our software assurance program. There has been a delay in the release date.

Re: Windows Vista...
Looks like just another Icon visual facelift on the same weak ass swiss chess security OS designed just to suck more of our cash back to M$ if you ask me?
Either way I WILL be working with it alot, <along with Longhorn server, if it ever gets released> so I'll have to reserve my final judgement for then, but thus far I'm not buying into all of the hype.
Have you seen Fedora 5 yet? The price is right, FREE!!! , TONS of new features and services, and it will stay running for years at a time, not minutes like Winblows.
Download the Fedora 5 DVD ISO Image here:
http://fedora.redhat.com/Download/
And or download MS Virtual Server here and Load her on up on top!
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...e/default.mspx
I'm SOOOOO glad Linux is finally making some inroads in corporate America and now is holding Redmonds feet to the fire!
IMHO......

Re: Windows Vista...
Is it worse than XP? I still run Windows 2000 at home, I hated how slow XP is and how dumbed down everything got.

Re: Windows Vista...
I think it's pretty pimp... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows...-user_features and the way vista media center edition works... it's going to fucking own.
Most high end users are going to the .Net framework, my companies biggest clients are asking for it and it's definitely an enterprise solution. When you compare it to php, cold fusion and others.... it's not even funny.
However I think linux is going to start picking up momentum in other areas. I was disappointed with Solaris 10, but I'm hoping Sun will be a big contender in the unix/linux based OS. Only time will tell I guess.

Re: Windows Vista...
Windows 2000 in my mind is the high point of microsoft OS development....
XP does work for some people, but I wouldnt pay for it
Vista is a joke, its gonna require everyone to upgrade to super-uber-workstations just to run it....yeah its fancy....whoop de doo
I use OSX for casual surfing....and my XP PC for gaming....and when I get a new intel mac I will be able to run XP on it....so I will only have one computer again.

Re: Windows Vista...
Ok, so this thread is 9 months old, but I was curious if anyone has any updates on how they like Vista. I'm getting my new laptop tomorrow and it has Vista Home Premium loaded on it. I'm basically just going to use it for internet and word processing stuff. Anything heavy duty will be done on my PC, but I was just curious how people like Vista.
Here is the laptop I got, except I bought it last Sunday and the price was only $550. Nothing fancy, but it looked like a good deal. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....8&type=product

Re: Windows Vista...
I destroyed Vista because it was a complete dog on my systems. But it was still in beta so im not sure how good the improvements are.
I know there are still lots of jokes going around about its performance.

Re: Windows Vista...
I have read up on a lot of forums and basically it slows up your computer worse than XP. Also has a lot of security issues and geared more towards the older generation that doesn't know how to use computers that great.
In my opinion if I had the choice between XP and Vista, by what I've read, I would choose XP still.

Boo to mac.
When I do upgrade my machine speeds I will be switching over to Vista. Takes alot of power to run it smoothly though.

Re: Windows Vista...
I'll be sticking with XP as long as possible. If I switch to anything it will be Linux at this point.
I'd still be running Windows 2000 (best MS OS to date) if Microsoft didn't quit supporting it.

Re: Windows Vista...
Macs suck ass. Enough said. The only Apple i will ever own is an Ipod (and a fruit).
I will stick with XP until at least Vista SP1.

Re: Windows Vista...
Macs suck... that's all I'll say. OSX is a shitty OS and their hardware is overcharged PC hardware. I guess they thought the path that Sun Microsystems took was a good one.... only one difference! Solaris is a good OS!

+1 on Windows 2000, most solid OS that I've had on my system. Win2k Server was solid.

Re: Windows Vista...
I like XP just fine, but I get Vista Business free from school so I am going to try it out and see how I like it . I've seen it used on my buddy's laptop, it looked pretty cool to me. I have enough ram to where my computer is already pretty fast, a bit slower wouldnt bother me all that much. I am planning on upgrading the ram soon anyway, hopefully this spring if the money situation is right.
I used to be into computers a lot. Back then my favorites were Redhat 9 (I think that was the latest version) and some version of Mandrake (now Mandriva I think). If I have money this spring after saving for my rebuild and doing the RAM and such, I will get an external hard drive and get a linux system, but for now I like the setup of Windows the best. Oh yeah, Apple for the gay. Sure the graphical interface is cool looking but their shit breaks more than any DSM I have ever known.

Re: Windows Vista...
Some rep was telling me you need 1gig RAM and MS recommends a dual core processor for optimized use. Now, I have those requirements, but anyone with a computer more than 1 year old is likely going to have to upgrade. Seems like a lot of cost just so that a computer will run similar to a Mac. I am a PC user, but that Mac OS is amazing.
