My sister recently tried out for american idol because my mom kept pressureing her, so that she would be able to learn to deal with rejection. My sister really didnt want to do this but said "oh well it will be an expirence".
So she went to the first tryout and did a couple songs and they loved her, so she advanced to the next round which was in front of the Executive producer of the show.
She got in front of him and the guy was amazed by her performance saying that she had a great stage presence and he loved the songs she sang, so he said that she was going on to the final tryout in front of simon, paula and a guest judge.

Before i get to the last tryout i just want to give a little background on my sis...
She graduated from University of River falls with a degree in Music Arts or something like that. She went on to grad school at one of the most prestigeous schools in the country called the New England Conservatory, it is the sister school to Harvard. She completed that and got her masters in Opera Performance. So in other words she knows how to sing.
She joined a band called Aesma Daeva which is a Symphonic Metal band, she toured and released two albums with them and then got picked up by a band that is located in Austria, named Visions of Atlantis, they have a record deal with a label called Napalm records, she gets flown out there at least once a month and will be releasing an album with them coming in december. They should hit it pretty big, they have a very loyal following in europe and are expected to go platinum in Europe (which is a lot easier to do then in the US, you only need to sell something like 10,000 copies) They have toured all across europe playing some major festivals....

Ok now back to the final interview...
She sang her ass off in front of Simon, Paula and the guest which was Jewel. Well, they werent as pleased as the previous two interviews were. Jewel said "This is the reason i dont like singers that have had training" or some shit like that. FUCK THAT BITCH. Simon said something to the tune that her performance was the perfect way to round up a day of crappy songs, in other words she sucked. And paula asked her to sing another, and while she sang they all just gave bad stares.
Fuck them all, they are truely lucky i wasnt there or i would be in jail right now and simon and those other fucks would be in the hospital.

My sis really didnt care, she didnt want to do it anyway, but after she got past the first two cuts she started to get excited and i could tell that she was starting to want this. When i talked to her tonight to ask her how it went i was so pissed off. Either way she has a band and a record deal but i just hate when people fuck with my family. Fuck them, they will prolly give it to some bastard with a sob story that cant sing for shit.

Wow, that sucks. I've heard though there are great singers that never get through because they don't "get the ratings" then. I watch the show, but ever since Season 1, I think it's been complete BS with who goes on....

I am sure the show doesn't care at all about true "talent", they just want people who will bring in the ratings. Then again, thats how the whole mainstream music/showbiz/actor(ress)/star business is.

Not to sound like an ass, but maybe she wasn't as good as she thinks but they wanted to advance her for entertainments sake? Maybe she is really good but they can't advance all of them.

In reality, she could have been one of the top 10 singers to audition this year anywhere and it just isn't what they are looking for. Personality, Looks, Charisma, and raw/unique talent is probably close to the winning combo to get on the show in the end. Everything else they see as a "been there, done that" attitude. And to keep the show going, that's what they need to do. the first seaosn and the last 2 seasons are the ones I enjoyed because of the individual on the show, and not so much the singing at time. Chris Daughtry never had the great overall voice they to get him on the show, but they said everything about him just stood out and his songs matched his abilities and gave the show a different rocker theme that they haven't had before.

Perosonally it sounds like your sis will do just fine in the long run and already has some good success.

This is all I can figure out, I am not saying that Tom's sister sucks but ither the people are really good or they suck so bad you can not imagine how they made it threw 2 or 3 other sets of auditions. I would guess Tom that your sister was unlucky at the end of a "bad" day as they say on the show, and did not have the "wow" factor, or simon hates the record label that does her band. Its possible she will end up on TV and get some media, look at William Hung(sp?).

Honestly, i would have said that if she hadnt had the credentials she does and was just someone who sings in their shower and are tone deaf. Obviously she has to have a somewhat decent voice in order to get into the school she was in (she had to tryout just to get in, they only take 4 students a year)
She has had the best training with the best voice coaches.

I wish her new band had a couple sample songs that i could post, Once she gets some of them shes gonna send it to me and ill post them. But here is their site www.visionsofatlantis.com The song they have on there called Lost is with their old singer that my sister replaced.

I know that when she went into the third interview she was going to have to talk to them about her current record contract. because they are not supposed to go in there with a deal already.
