Just my stupid ass luck...
My dsm is broken.
Today on the way home i was driving and made a quick pull on a straight, and kinda grinded the 2-3 shift.
I slowed down after that and came up to some traffic at a light, light turns green, and i cant get it into first. "WTF???" so i throw on the hazards and make sure the clutch is all the way pushed down and slam it into gear. i manage to get on the highway thinking that its just a little hot from the pull and mis-shift, then come up on some more traffic and notice the same thing happening, but when i put it into gear with the clutch all the way to the floor and its still trying to pull. i manage to make it to a 7-11 and park it. scratch my head for a bit and call chris (s2kracka) and Craig (blizzard), both of them say the same thing "Master cylinder needs to be adjusted" so i go into the store and see if they have a pliers (later finding that the only thing needed was a freakin 12mm as i did not see the lock bolt) They do not have a pliers, so i ask every store around there and none of them have one.
I finally decide to try and limp it home, I pull out of the parking lot, go into first, second, third.... umm... wheres third, there is instantly no play in third, i quickly shift back to second and pull into the next parking lot, just happens to be a place that is like walmart. i start to pull around to park and get half way into the U turn for the next row and the shifter locks in neutral. ARE YOU EFFIN KIDDING ME?!?!? i get out and push my car back into a parking spot. i call chris and he tells me it might be something with the tranny. So i try and wiggle the shifter free and finally it goes into what i thought was first.
I go into the store and purchase a pliers (still not realising there is a lock nut) and try and turn the master cylinder adjustment shaft. Doesnt want to turn too much. so i get about halfway of a turn, and try it. Start the car, shift into what i thought was first and the car dies.... umm thats no good. So after that i just say f it im calling a tow truck,
Finally get someone to come out and tow the car home, we get home and i tell him to just pull the car in front of the garage and ill push it in.
Turns out the car has decided that 3rd was the gear it wanted so stay in, so looks like shes not moving anywhere.
I try and rev up and drive but everytime i try the car just dies. BAH.
So im currently parked in a red zone 12 feet from my garage and i just stare at what i have in my garage and my non moving car. There is absolutly nothing that is gonna make this car move.
after looking over my options i finally decide the only option i have is to unhook one of the driveshafts and roll it in. What a bitch (not really actually) that was to do. SO im tired, hungary, and so fed up with my car that im ready to burst, but now i have to push the car up hill to get a running start and the short incline to the garage, mind you i am doing this alone. I push the white whale and manage to get into the garage.
BAH WTF i am really starting to hate these cars being broke all the time.
So instead of going to work tomorrow, im going to be in the garage pulling the tranny to see if anything doesnt look right. We shall see.
::end rant::

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
Like I said on the phone, if the master cyclinder is ok, the next thing I would guess it was is the clutch disk lost a spring and its in the tranny somewhere. This has happened to me numerous times. Your pressure plate could also be fucked if a spring fell off the clutch disk.
Or you could have a famous shift fork broken.

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
Wow that sucks really bad. Yea it sounds like something with the clutch is messed up, but if third is not there then maybe you broke that fork too. Hard to tell until you rip it apart.
Get rid of the dsms and youll be much happier Being dsmsless gives you so much time to do normal stuff.

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
Ok so now i am looking at trasmissions, just incase i need to replace it.
I totally didnt realise that sheps transmissions are so inexpensive. I was thinking it was gonna be an easy $2500-3000 to replace this shit.
Is it worth going from the stage one to the stage 2? Im thinking i may do the true LSD while i am at it

I had a Phantom-Grip style LSD and while it was nothing like a true LSD, it was still much improved over the stock open diff for a lot cheaper.

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
To push your car, just pull out the spark plugs and let the engine turn over. It won't be very hard with no compression.

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
Or if you can start the car while its stuck in gear, then obviously the clutch is OK. So push the clutch in and have someone else push.

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
That wouldnt have mattered, just start it up when you push it. If anything it'd only be helping.

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
Deng, sounds kinda similar to my problem right now. It's stuck in gear, and won't come out. But atleast I can push the clutch in, and roll the car around. So far I've found a broken shift fork, and a broken slider.

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
Yeah Tom you can send him the core and he can fix it for more money of course. I am pretty sure he usually goes over them with a fine tooth comb anyway. If your going to do it I would just do it big the first time and make it strong and then you won't have to worry about it.

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
We had a problem a few years ago that the clutch wouldn't come out of gear. It was a few weeks after we got our 1st dsm. We were just driving down the road and the car was stuck in second and wouldn't come out. It ended up being a shattered clutch disk. It had a new clutch and everything a year before and the place that did the clutch wouldn't back it.

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
I just went through the exact same thing a month ago and now here i sit 3 or 4 thousand later in the process of a stage 2 from tre. Id check with them if i were you as well. they seem good in price and service. I am now in the process of a 6 bolt swap, tranny, and forged from the bottom up. It will be ready for the years to come HP.

Re: Just my stupid ass luck...
Ok so i got the tranny out.
Im really thinking that the transmission gears are fine. when i opened the smaller cover (not sure what it was but its on the end of the tranny.) and the gears look perfect, not a scratch on them.
I managed to pry the big cover up a little and there is just a minor scrach in one of the gears, but nothing too major.
The fluid from the tranny looked pretty clear, there was a full 3 quarts and it wasnt clumpy or anything but im positive there is a problem with the thing that engages the gears. (? shift fork). when i shake the tranny a little i can hear a rattle like a peice broke off and is rolling around in there.
So i am gonna take the transmission to a repair shop and see if they can fix it. I know the tranny is relativly new so im not gonna send it to shep just yet. But i am hoping that a transmission shop will fix it for relativly cheap being that the tranny is already out of the car and it shouldnt need any gears. Im gonna prolly have to take a day off so that i can watch them take it apart and make sure they only fix what needs to be fixed. (really dont feel like getting screwed in the ass)
The flywheel has some pretty deep scratches in it so i may end up getting that resurfaced.
