Intercooler Corrosion

Well The outlet pipe on my intercooler has holes in them. What do I do to fix this? Do I need to buy a whole new intercooler? Does anyone have one laying around from converting theirs to a front style?

THIS DOES EXPLAIN THE BOOST LEAK PROBLEM!!

Re: Intercooler Corrosion

Find a new one. Stock sidemounts can be easily found for <$100.

Re: Intercooler Corrosion

You could have a new elbow/outlet welded onto it. But when you are all said and done you could have just gotten a used side mount for a bit more.

Re: Intercooler Corrosion

Quickest and easiest solution is to wirebrush the in/outlets really well and then cover each in a nice smooth layer of JB Weld (QuikWeld works too), let it cure, then bolt everything back up. Bye-bye boost leak, hello $3 fix

Re: Intercooler Corrosion

Well I have to tell you it acts like a whole different car. It has power!
The JB weld is holdingup for right now. We will see for how long. I will price around for a different side intercooler. It shouldn't be that hard to find one.

What I can't believe is how long the previous owner was driving it around like that. It would have drove me nuts. I hope this helps my gas milage now that I have fixed the boost leak (major boost leak!)

Re: Intercooler Corrosion

The JB Weld will hold for longer than the rest of your intercooler lasts, don't bother buying a new one. I used mine for another 2 years after JB Welding it and when I took it off it still looked perfect.
