Evo clutch restrictor removal is great success!

That's right, I yanked out that stupid little restrictor from the slave cyl and the clutch engages MUCH more smoothly! Took probably 15 mins to do it and bleed the clutch after. It was so successful I decided to try out the launch control. Keep in mind that as far as drag racing goes I'm a NOOB as i have never launched my car in an effort to pretend to baby it. Hughes is an EXCELLENT teacher, as he beats the piss out of his 1G regularly.

First launch, not so hot.
Second launch, better, but not ideal.
Third launch, getting there, I think I'm getting the technique!!!
Fourth launch, got the idea, ready for July 8th!

We leave, and while driving around I do one more launch, the car is hauling some ass! Drive around and play some more, head home.

Later that night, I had to go to work. Hrm, clutch feels fine still!....wait, wait, wait, was that a little slippage? Oh yea, when I'm on the on-ramp to get on hwy 100 it slips 1000rpms in every gear.

So, I've been babying it until my Southbend OFE comes in. It should be broken in before July 8th!

It takes like 10 minutes. Just remove your intake and there's the slave cyl. right there on the front of the tranny. Unscrew the bleeder screw, unbolt the banjo bolt from the clutch line, and then take a SMALL allen wrench or piece of wire and push the restrictor and it's spring out the bottom. Push in the direction from the bleeder side towards the banjo bolt side. reconnect banjo bolt and bleeder and you're done. Just bleed the clutch line and you're ready for launching!!!

That was my buddies first mod to his Evo back in Yuma. We did it at around 4k miles, the same time the stock clutch gave out and had to throw in a new one. Those stock clutches don't seem to last worth a damn. Hope the new one works better man!

Well, stock one lasted 39k miles for me, but I literally did three or four weak-ass launches on it, never several in a row. If you don't beat on it, and you're not making 330+wtq, it should hold for a while.

Ha, 6 semi back to back passes sure killed my 18k mile clutch. :-) Biggest mistake of my life. Good luck on the 8th!

I did that mod a couple years back in my eclipse as well. I felt a little difference, but it was worth the 15 min it took.

I was wondering would it hurt not to do the mod when you put in a aftermarket clutch?

You can do it now, or when you get an aftermarket clutch, or whenever you want. All the restricter does is dampen the clutches engagement. By removing it, you get quicker clutch engagement. I'm assuming mitsubishi puts those in there from the factory just to give the car a more drivable feel. Softer more gentile starts, keeps buyers more comfortable I suppose. I say rip it out soon as you can, it's free.

I think Mitsu put it in there to save on driveline shock and cost them less money in warranty repairs since it only makes a difference when you're shifting hard. Leaving it in will cause accelerated wear no matter which clutch you are using.
