SMC Alky Kit Install

One of my winter-long projects was to get an alky kit going on the evo. I have wanted to do alky injection on all of my dsm's, but have never gotten around to it until now. It really took a lot less time than I thought it would, but then again I went with a kit put together by SMC Enterprises. The fit and finish is quite nice, and overall the install took maybe 3 hours (I took my sweet ass time and tied everything down all nice like). Here's some pics for your enjoyment

A little gin-n-juice for the evo

Shot of the tank and pump all assembled. The pump has a built-in pressure sensor that ensures 40psi of pressure is being provided. This will be mounted in the trunk.

This is the progressive controller. Set to start spraying once it sees 10psi, and be spraying full 100psi of pressure by the time the controller sees 20psi of manifold pressure. The 'spray' light only comes on when the pump is flowing 40psi of pressure.

SS fuel line and pump assembly wiring harness. This provides power to the pump, but also sends the pump's pressure sensor signal back to the controller (this signal can be tapped into later for integration with AEM EMS).

The nozzle assembly. Note the pressure gauge for testing

Mitsubishi left us ample room for this project

Inside the tank. Pickup tube and low fluid level warning sensor.

Tank and pump assembly

Some setups come with plastic tubing. Braided SS is the way to go

Re: SMC Alky Kit Install

Just under the tank is a breathing tube/drain tube of some sort. I stuck the SS line through there.

I really wanted to keep the zip ties to a minimum, but here it was really necessary.

SS line runs through a spare spot on these brackets that run under the car. These also secure brake and fuel lines.

Had to find a 25/64" drill bit to drill the right hole, but it fits perfect. A little blue loctite will keep this from coming loose.

Had to put at a bit of an angle so I could still fit a wrench in there to tighten this little 7gph nozzle:

Not as incogneto as I would have liked, but nice and clean will do.

Trunk all buttoned up.

Open container of alcohol? Why no officer, I'm not sure what you're talking about

I'm sure this kit could be adapted to fit in a DSM as well. I'll be posting dyno results soon, hks 280's are going in this week

I'm sure you can run h20 as well as methanol with this kit. SMC recommends 100% denatured alcohol, and as of right now I believe that it is the most readily available.

Nice choice! SMC makes a nice kit and their customer service is awsome! They've been around for a long time as well.

Looking good. I cant wait to see the results.

Just curious, do you have to worry about the alchohol drying out the rubber line that you used at the pump?

I do not believe that will be an issue; it came with the kit, and I've seen others use similar style tubing for parts of their alky/meth kits with no problems.

Re: SMC Alky Kit Install

Alky or Meth injection will provide two things: more fuel and more detonation resistance. For me, this means taking the stock (yes stock!) injectors that much further and running higher boost on pump gas. My stock turbo will be pumping out about 26psi soon, and some people rap out as much as 30psi from the stock evo turbo!

Ultimatly, I'm hoping to pick up about 30whp and 30-40 lb-ft of torque from this.

Very Slick Install! Did you make that door for the trunk or does the kit come with it?

That door in the drunk is factory, but empty. The other side of the trunk has the same thing but its the washer fluid reservoir.

Look great Chris!
