For most, wages fall behind inflation
"Pay is low, productivity is high, there still aren't enough jobs, and wages are losing ground to prices. Happy Labor Day."
http://www.startribune.com/535/story/641624.html
Kinda foa good article to read. Lost of changes are happening within many industries and employers to cut costs and this goes over some of them. Insurance and overall beneifts are a big one. I know our work is changing benefits again, and one of the big ones is putting in higher rates for smokers and discounted rates for non smokers. The way I see it, I can't afford not to quit.

Re: For most, wages fall behind inflation
I've noticed that the lower paid people keep getting small (crappy) raises, like around2-3% tops, while the big dogs, who already make way too much keep getting larger raises (about 15%), larger bonuses, and more perks. It just doesn't seem right. I kind of hate the fact I see this now that I'm in payroll.

Re: For most, wages fall behind inflation
If it makes you feel better, our last CEO was given a severance of over 2 millions when he left his position for another company. And then more bonus money for going periods of time not working for a competing company. This for a guy who left to go somehwere for MORE money.

Re: For most, wages fall behind inflation
I have access to all the payroll records for UHG. You should see what some of these guys are getting for their monthly bonuses alone! Not to mention what they are putting on their company credit cards...

Any exec pretty much have a blank check to do what ever they want. Heck, I would guess allot of it are country club dues and golfing events.

Re: For most, wages fall behind inflation
It's really depressing to work a position in which you can see everyone's wages. Go figure you are at the bottom on that list.

I really don't find it depressing, I view it as a goal to work towards. Despite what a lot of people think, the majority of those executives have worked very hard to get to where they are at and have made a beneficial impact on the company. Do they deserve their compensation? A lot of stockholders seem to think so.

Re: For most, wages fall behind inflation
As long as I'm getting paid what I feel is fair, then I really don't care how much the CEO is making.

To make X salaries are goals but to achieve them. You will need to network and do allot of butt kissing.

Re: For most, wages fall behind inflation
I work for an ESOP company Sure you start out shitty, but the better you do, the longer you stay.. the more money you get in the end! I think ESOP is the best way to run a company. That way, when people realize that if they break this or that, or steal that.. or sit around and do nothing; they are just hurting themselves in the end. I'm hoping for a respectable raise at my yearly review. A dollar or more would be nice..
