first time on race gas!
omg my first time on race gas was today! it was soo fun! im only on a 14b at 18 psi with most of the right supporting mods. I have a rewired fuel pump and thats about it for fuel. But honestly, the car pulls soo hard and my knock is 0! yes! go DSMs! I'm soo excited for sunday at rockfalls!

Ive never tried any, the only place I've even seen sell race gas is in rosemount and it's leaded... so I doubt thats what I want

Boost until you starting hitting knock then pull back a little. I'm not sure at what psi of boost the 14b runs out of steam though. You can surely go past 18psi though. I'm guessing the 14b is good to at least 21-22psi. Somebody else can tell you exactly on here. I've never ran a 14b.

Re: first time on race gas!
I have run 25+psi on one before. The 14B can't sustain the boost though and eventually drops down to 18psi in the higher RPMs like usual, but it does make a lot of torque and you can get down the track quick, if you know the right RPM to shift at in each gear.

Re: first time on race gas!
Sorry to hijack this thread- But Shane, where would you normally shift a 50trim'd car like my 99GSX knowing that it has all the classy mods like a Magnus, 272's, etc.? I've been rapping it out at 7500. It's still the stock bottom end 2g. thanks.

Probably as high as possible. You would really need to see what your power curve is like on the dyno, but with that setup, it should still make decent power at 7500+ RPMs so you will probably want to shift high. On cars with smaller turbos that don't make the best power in the high RPMs you would want to shift lower. I think when had the 14B on her car, she would shift 1st-2nd at 7200+ RPMs, then 2nd to 3rd at 6300 and 3rd to 4th at something like 5900.

I ran 20+psi on my old black beater's 14B. It would spike to 24, then fall to around 18-19ish.
It was good for 12.99 to 13.10 all day long with basically no supporting mods. (you gotta love C-16)

Re: first time on race gas!
I drove to rock falls on 110 at 28 PSI. Now 92 oct seams slow. I want to start buying race gas by the drum, and run it all the time.

Re: first time on race gas!
I dont have ARP head studs, so i dont really wanna run more than 20 psi. Im just a loser or something! I bought it at marathon in rosemount. I know its leaded but who really gives a damn? its also 3.69, same price as last year and they say it wont go up!

Re: first time on race gas!
I get Mobile 111 leaded from the gas station on Central Ave sometimes and it seems like decent gas. $4.00 a gallon. Good to 30psi but no more than that. Too bad its not cheaper so turbo cars could run it all the time.

Me- "I don't think you would stand a chance."
Cop says "probably not" and drives off.

No doubt, I asked for the CROSS STREET on Central, as Central Ave runs from downtown mpls up way past Blaine man, and just how many Mobils through there are who knows? At least what city is it the one that sells the 111 in? Mpls, NE Mpls, Columbia Hieghts, Blaine or even farther north?
Maybe you'd like to go search and screw around for hours to find this station that sells 111, but my slow A/T bubble car is even slower than your slowbubblecar and I for one don't have that kind of extra time to waste.

Re: first time on race gas!
The cross street is 37th, in Columbia Heights. It is Bobby & Steves. You can even pay with credit card!!

Re: first time on race gas!
I had problems with that gas last year for some reason. My tune was setup for 100 unleaded and when the place I usually went for it stopped selling it for the season I went to the Bobby and Steves. I don't know why but with nothing changed on my tune I got more knock than I should have seeing as I was running a higher octane. I'll try it again this year for a new tune with the new motor, hopefully that will help.

Re: first time on race gas!
I have had good luck with that gas. I know we ran it in Nash's old car quite a bit and it would run 30psi no problem, but any more than that and it knocked like a bitch.

Re: first time on race gas!
We had very bad results with the gas from there on Mara's car there a few years ago. We tried to dyno on it and got 43 knock count at 17psi, so we had to drain the tank and put in some C16, which didn't knock. It was worse than normal pump gas on that occasion. I have a feeling the tank their 111 octane gas is in get contaminated every so often.
