Would a Hyunda Elantra with a 4g63 be legal in the in any of the front wheel drive classes of drag racing. I am thinking of the hatchback model. I think it would be fun to woop on turbo civics in their own class (fiberglass models). Or would this block in that body be illegal. Only reason it wouldn't be in a dsm body is weight.

I don't have a rule book and was wandering if anyone had the same thought or could find out.

Most if not all Elantra's came with Mitsu motors, the 1.8's or 1.6's in the coupe model should look exactly the same externally as a DSM motor, except for the 2-valve head of course.

So I doubt the valve covers would be the same?

It would have to run in an outlaw/modified or the top dog pro-class. The cars in those classes are running high 6s to low 8s. Brent Rau's RWD runs in the Outlaw/Modified class.

Yeah I wouldn't want to try run against those guys. I would like to stay closer to a unibody class. What class do those turbo hatches at Elite run in? Does anyone know of where the class rules are online?

Turbo unibody civic hatches usually run the in the Quick 16/Hot Rod classes. every series has slightly different rules. NHRA (www.nhrasportcompact.com) calls that class Hot Rod, IDRC (www.importdrag.com) calls it Quick, and NDRA (www.nopi.com/ndra/asm_ndra.cfm) calls it Pro 4 cylinder.
