Crank Pulley

1990 laser, we did timing belt. We know the timing belt is on correctly and sprocket is on correctly, but we are not sure if we are using the correct crank pulley or damper pulley. Is there a difference with 2g crank pulley and where the notch is for timing light vs. 1g crank pulley? We noticed the timing light mark on the 1g was in a different location vs. the 2g crank pulley. Any help please.

Both will work, the 2G is supposed to do a better job of holding up.

Literaly yes, but you cannot check timing with the wrong crank pulley. Once we put my old 95 crank pulley on and replaced what ever pulley he had on there we were able to ground the ignition and set the real btdc to 5. She ran better then she ever has according to Josh the owner. Person who helped him before put the timing belt on too tight, balance shaft timing belt was not put in, sprocket on backwards and wrong crank pulley, etc. The other crank pulley had a different notch position for the dowel pin and that is why I never picked up the notch with timing light. So timing belt was done correctly last weekend, wrong crank pulley and we replaced with correct one. Unfortunatley his car on the way back from QPR had an electrical problem and his alternator failed him. Too many problems. Dahm it, I helped, but something else went wrong in this low budget ordeal. I am logged in as 90lazerrst, oops, its really JasonR.

If I remember correctly, last time I checked the 1g & 2g crank pulleys had the same key/timing mark locations. If anybody else knows for sure, chime in please.

Was he running an aftermarket pulley?

There is a difference with the 90 pulley I believe. All the engines we have done used the same style pulley except for one 90.

the pulley i picked up for my 90 had the timing mark inline with the dowel notch. We couldnt even see it with the timing light. Then we switched to the 95 pulley and the marks were where they should be. I dont know, this problem was solved i think but i am now in hell with electronics!! AWESOME.
