Scrapping a car for $

I am cutting a car apart and it just seems a waste just to throw all this metal away.

Is there a place where I can turn this scrap metal into a little $?

Don't need to cut one up but would like to know where and how much a bare shell is worth 1800-2000lbs

There are tons of companies in the phonebook who will come haul away scrap cars and give you a tax write-off for it.

What's a phonebook? They still make those. Lol

I'm not looking for someone to take it off my hands. Also the companies that will come and pick it up won't give you shit for it. Even if it's worth $500 of scrap. I guess I was looking for an answer like "we use this place in x city and we hot $150 for a bare shell.

Also I had a junkyard come pick a 98 shell up and tgey gave me nothing and it even had full interior and parts they could sell. They also left a huge puddle of hydraulic fluid on my concrete driveway from a hose that was leaking on the loft rig. I'd rather not do that again. I'll get rid of it on my own.

I guess Chim or Dan would know the answer or possibly even tkr

If you prep it for them there are a bunch of places that will give u scrap prices. I think it is spelled Schwartzman's, they do it. You need to take all fluids and the gas tank out first. They weigh your trailer when you go in, then again when you go out.

Re: Scrapping a car for $

Taken scrap metal here before.. Was a few blocks from the OG shop. Just need to make sure all metals are separated and everything is clear of anything else, otherwise your price per pound goes down significantly.

Re: Scrapping a car for $

Thank you also! as I started the thread.

Everything is pretty well separated out. Frame is cut up. Glass is out sheet metal is separated.

Is there any hang ups on actually scrapping a whole car? Like title problems? we have the title to the truck. I just don't know what to expect when I get there

Re: Scrapping a car for $

*update* Northern metro recycling will pay $215 per ton, they are a little closer to me.

Re: Scrapping a car for $

As far as the title goes you can go online and say you junked it.

https://dutchelm.dps.state.mn.us/dvs...portOfSale.asp

I guess that doesn't transfer the title but shows its no longer yours.
