Winter mpg - What do you get?

I'm not too happy with my winter mpg and I'm wondering what everyone else gets. I drive a bone stock automatic 94 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. I'm rated at 17 city, 20 hiway from the factory. Right now I average only 17.5'ish mpg. I pump only BP 93 and I always warm-up and cool-down my car. I tried removing my spar tire and jack to reduce some weight but I don't think that helped very much. I also bumped up my tire pressure to 36psi. I don't think that helped very much either. I drive like a grandma and still only manage like 17.5 mpg :'(

Is it highway, stop and go?

Low compression, AWD, Automatic (lots of drive train loss)
You have a lot against you...

Re: Winter mpg - What do you get?

I'm averaging 17.5'ish combined although I would say that I do a lot more hiway than stop and go driving since I live in St. Paul but work in Minneapolis. I was averaging 19 something before it got cold out and I wasn't even trying to get good mpg at the time.

Re: Winter mpg - What do you get?

That is really good, that is what I average on E85 in my automagic and its depressing since I'm used to 30+mpg vehicles, my civic gets about 34mpg while I hate its lack of power I love the fact I'm driving 350+ miles a week and only filling up one.

I used to get 19-20mpg on E85 in our 1G in the Winter. Evos don't usually fair so well though.

Re: Winter mpg - What do you get?

I'm gettin' close to 25ish city/highway average in the Civic beater. When I had the GVR4, I was getting around 15-17 mpg during the winter seasons. Warming up the car takes up a good amount of gas.

I never said I was doing enormously better, I'm getting low 18s on average, driving it nice.

And yes, I realize you get better than everyone else here in your beater Civic while driving it like a jackass, congrats, your highness.

I drive like a jackass? I try to drive like it like a racecar on the street and spin out in corners? I get into car accidents often? weird I haven't noticed.

Please try again.

Pao, If you have an eprom ECU maybe you can have shane chip and tune it for you, i think that would be the cheapest option or you could get link for it and have a local place tune it for you, These cars run pretty damn rich.

Re: Winter mpg - What do you get?

I put two tanks of gas through my 2g auto and driving it like a grandma as best I could I only got 17 both times on pump gas in the fall. Stopped driving it after that and switched back to my cl which gets 25/26 mixed driving and now seems to get around 24 in the winter.
