Laptop buying advice, much appreciated.

My wife Samantha is looking to buy a new laptop because hers is on its last legs.

She needs something portable to throw in her already heavy backpack (weighs 1/2 as much as she does), something with decent power she plays the sims when she is supposed to be studying, and just something that is nice and reliable i guess.

She doesn't like netbooks, I tried to talk her into it with no luck.

Thanks
Aaron

I've got a Toshiba Satellite (m305 s4910). 4gb ram, 320gb hd. I've got Adobe CS4/5 Master Collection + movies, games (SNES!), and other files upon files of my art work and etc. Got Link also . I've had it since April 09' and it's been holding up EXTREMELY well. got it for about $600 new. There's some pretty good ones for about $300 nowadays.

I second the Toshiba, I just got a refurb one from Micro Center with 7 on it, works great, and the price was right.

Re: Laptop buying advice, much appreciated.

I had a newer toshiba at the beginning of the year. It was the slim one with no dvd drive. That thing was light as hell, thin, and got like 8 hours of battery life with it at work. Sadly my son decided it was a toy. Manufacture warranty dont cover that. So I am now looking at the Toshiba Portege Laptop. Its still slim and light, but now has a cd/dvd drive in it.

<3 my Toshiba.
Hated my HP/Compaq.
Janelle's Dell seems nice too, but the HDD failed was replaced under warranty.

Well I wasn't expecting to get such a good caliber of a machine and was expecting to be sub $600, looks like we can anything she wants for in the $700+ range. I might have to bite the bullet and get something worthy of what she wants.
I'd like to keep it 14-15" for portability sakes as it will occasionally get taken to school.
