Teaching politics 101 to kids

I recently asked my friends' little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President of the United States . Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there. So I asked her, "If you were President, what would be the first thing you would do?" She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people." Her parents beamed.
"Wow...what a worthy goal," I told her. "But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my driveway, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house."
She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?"
I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party." Her parents still aren't speaking to me.

Sadly, it really is as simple as that if you break it down.

Re: Teaching politics 101 to kids

I'm waiting for Tom to say the person offering the $50 is a mean, cold hearted SOB for not paying twice that amount for said work, and that a union should be formed to protect the worker from all evil SOB's.

Vote independent, but then you would be throwing your vote away. What you should have said was, " take that $50 to the corner of home depot somewhere in texas and pick yourself up an illegal worker and pay him $20 and keep the other $30. And then said welcome to the republican party".

You assume that the illegals would be qualified to do the work. Republicans do understand the value of repeat business...we put ourselves through college to learn stuff like that.

Personally I'm all for immigration, as long as they are skilled. These days that probably means Asian. Have I offended enough people with this post? My work is done.

If the Republicans were in power, there wouldn't be any illegal aliens looking for work at Home Depot.
