Gates' 4b11t w/ 11k race miles @ 566whp, finally lets go :(
Last week, ams 750r cast manifold kit that he's run since last year on E85:

The oil sprayed out all the way back to the rear bumper where I had to trow the dirt onto. There's some minor cosmetic damage back there...but think of it as character haha. Other than that, the car appears to be solid and we'll be back with a nice little AMS 2.2L and 850R action real soon! Again thanks for all the support, I'll post a bunch more once I have more time this week.
And Matthew...Mumphrey made it out unharmed hahaha!

He was playing with fire, but the fact that it held up that long proves that the 4B11 is a great engine and AMS are great tuners.

4B11 is quite the strong motor for what Gate has done to it. I'm shocked at how reliable it has been for him.

Yea they said track conditions were awesome, which means it was sticky and fast, which means maybe oil starvation from too much cornering awesomeness, or something simply let go. I'd bet on a DD a stock 4b11 at this power level for 100k miles w/o blinking an eye.

Or it might blow up faster with the kind of maintenance and attention a normal person without AMS behind them might give the car. I would guess by those number in STD correction that it would have put down around 475-480awhp on my dyno. My wife's 1G put down 485awhp on my dyno and then 563awhp in SAE mode at MAP. STD correction(like his dyno chart is in) is usually good for another 2%-4% higher numbers than SAE correction, depending on weather conditions.

That's pretty impressive that it held up that long at over 500whp. Sucks that it blew up though. It must have really been spitting flames for it to warp the rear bumper like that.

When you spring an oil leak under that much stress, it gets everywhere imaginable on the car.
Now when you get a hole in your block..... hahaha

If it was oil starvation, he should think about a dry sump or more baffles, or even an accumulator.

A new shortblock from Mitsu with our discount is only $2200, not too bad for what you get. I think the bare block was like $900.

Yea, but he's probably getting a free or nearly-free 2.2 race motor from AMS, so its tough to pass on that shit

Sucks, but at least he got the $$$ to replace it. I got the modified mag at work with his car on it, pretty cool deal.
If he is on here good luck.
Scheides isn't this the guy you were leg humping that one night at OC and you guys told me it was stock and I should run it?

He's on EvoMN. He also came to the first go-karting event this year. Interestingly, he came in second but was bragging on a national forum about winning it. :\
Ryan is a nice/friendly guy and I did talk to him very briefly while he installed his headlights at ProKart.

I've never bought the argument that race cars see more abuse than daily drivers. I've been heckled on forums for that view. Do drivers like Ryan flub shifts? Do they hit the gas hard in 5th gear from low rpms without downshifting? People that drive on the street stress their motors in ways that race car drivers don't. On the track you run in a very narrow rpm range and it certainly 'feels' less stressful on the car to me.

Sorry to bump a dead thread...i was actually just trying to find prices on the "bare" block from Mitsu on google and couldn't find shit...one search led me here, lol.
Goat, do you have a part number or something for the bare block? I haven't been able to find shit...and bare means just the block w/ sleeves i am guessing? Trying to figure out if that makes more sense for me or not or if the shortblock is still the best route...I am guessing the shortblock still is since Danny seemed to think so but I am bored at work.

If we were able do it all over again. I would of gotten a short block. I think we paid a little over 2k for the block and crank.

The guy who towed my car said you bought one with a blown motor, lol. He said you tuned his civic that has 600whp or so.
I think i am getting the shortblock, all the machining is done.
