What makes an Evo better than an STi?
I am going to be posting this question on a few different forums (mitsustyle, EvoMN, and MNSubaru), then sharing the responses with all the sites involved. So, post up anything you think makes an Evo better than an STi, and why if you really feel like it.
Let the games begin!

Re: What makes an Evo better than an STi?
Tough question, 90% of the Evo being "better" comes down to personal preference and driving feel. The Evo is easier to work on and seems to better handle increased power levels over stock. Hopefully Shane will add the advantages of the Evo ECU, but from talking to him it sounds like the Evo is easier to tune plus we have all the Tephra hacks available. I'm sure you've seen all the test comparison specs so I won't bother going into those. Another big thing that's often over-looked is how much more spacious the Evo interior (especially backseat) is.

Re: What makes an Evo better than an STi?
This is coming from memory so someone please correct me if I am wrong:
The STI (2004-2007) is faster in a straight line than an Evo VIII, but the Evo VIII stops faster and turns better. The Evo IX is faster in a straight line than the VIII and also the STI with the same handling and braking characteristics of the VIII.

Because it has a 4G63 instead of a BMW motorcycle engine

Re: What makes an Evo better than an STi?
For Rally Purposes, Subaru has dominated the scene
I didn't see a evo make the longest jump on new years...
I think it is a dumb question

and you are going to post this on?
mitsustyle, EvoMN, and MNSubaru?
I mean it also depends on what you are talking about or what you are comparing.
I see Subaru have their own magazine which evo owners don't have
Subaru has been in the market here for quite some time and now are cheep and affordable. Evos here in the states, newest one Evo 8?
Subarus have multi level trims and they can interchange easily!
Impreza
WRX
STi
we have either a lancer or an evo No mid range and no parts can swap in beween the two without a lot of hassle.
I am defending subarus here because i know we have a bunch of mitsubishi people
I am indifferent. Take them to the track, rally, or whatever and figure it out... Thats what made them have such good competition between each other for years!!!

Re: What makes an Evo better than an STi?
I don't see subaru's making the power that evo's do as easily and evo's hold a sh*t ton of records. I don't see that coming from subaru either. Isn't the fastest all out drag suby only in the 9's?

Re: What makes an Evo better than an STi?
I test drove an STi recently, and it just felt like shit from a driver's standpoint. No gearbox feel, no tire feedback, no engine feel in the pedals, the car was incredibly numb and dead in every aspect. While it may perform comparably, there's just no logical reason to choose it over the Evo if you're going to do more than cruise around in it.
And there's no chance in hell I'm tossing this car around a field. If it were more of a beater, sure, but not in the shape it's in.

We're talking only Evo vs. STI here. The first USDM Evo was MY2003, the first USDM STI was MY2004. Yes, we did get the WRX beginning MY2002, but if you want to look at it like that we got the DSM and GVR4 starting way back in MY1990.

Everything minus the interior gauges and interior plastics and clutch options and peeling wings.

Re: What makes an Evo better than an STi?
I haven't been in an Evo yet, only at the Autoshow. My preference on the Evo interior is that it's my kind of 'food' I guess I could say. It's not too ugly, not too nice. It's nice, simple and to the point. I've heard from many that it is cheap though.
My friend has a 02 WRX turbo (not an STi), the engine itself is the most solid engine I've ever seen. I've seen and been in what kind of abuse it has taken. The only issue with it was the transmission after that abuse, which isn't surprising. Interior-wise, my galant has more room. I can actually "lay" back in my car, whereas in the WRX, I was only at a sitting position, close to about a 100 degree when sitting. The WRX as a four door car, I'm expecting some more leg room but I don't, whenever I go sit in the rear of my car, I have room for my legs to breathe.
I'd much prefer the Evo because they're more easy to modify, tune and do simple maintainences. The interior is more of my style, even though it may be cheap(dash). As for the WRX STi, to me, it feels like a regular WRX with STi stickers and the engine.

Re: What makes an Evo better than an STi?
I am not sure what your trying to accomplish here? this question is all opinion based and I only see it starting flames. anyways to answer I PERSONALLY like the evo better I have had TONS of rides in both. my old roommate had a stage 2 sti and we drove that thing everywhere, I have also had the pleasure to ride in about 7 different evos. I think the evo is better looking on the outside and inside, I enjoy the feel of them better, and they seem like they had handle more power better.

yeah the wrx transmissions suck but the sti 6speeds do not and how are the engines garbage? they may not be able to handle real high hp (400+) but otherwise they run like champs.

Re: What makes an Evo better than an STi?
I think a lot of the "engines are garbage" comments stem from issues regarding poor tuning and/or improper engine oil choices.
