Can't go past 25 mph!?!

Today driving home from work I started smelling a nasty burning rubber smell, so I pulled over and checked everything out, everything was ok from what I saw, so I continued driving. Everything was fine for a bit but then my engine started revving without my MPH going up everytime I shifted but then finally dropped back down and started speeding up again. After awhile I wasnt able to go past 30 mph the whole rest of the way home. Is this my clutch that is gone, or is this my tranny? I found out that the person whom I bought this car from was recently at the 507 meet and let some kid drive this talon (who didnt know how to drive a clutch) and roasted the clutch and smashed into a neon and went over a curb infront of a lot of people, they even made a thread about it on 507. Could this be the case?

Sounds like your clutch is gone.

If the rpm continue's to rise but you're not speeding up. It's no doubt you're clutch.

that's crazy, my 2g just dies after a couple seconds if a pipe blows off.

To OP: New clutch time - the way you describe the engine revving leads me to believe you burned whatever was left on your clutch, hence the burning smell, and it was slipping like mad; now it's prolly like metal to metal practically.. you'll give it a nice polish at least

Nope- paid 1800 for it...wouldn't consider it cheap in that kind of condition...

If the car started and drove and was AWD, 1800 is a good deal imho.

Re: Can't go past 25 mph!?!

A cheap car will always have issues unfortunately. I bought a $2000 Laser RS AWD a few years ago as a winter beater and immediately planned on putting $1000 worth of work/maintenance into it. Once you get the issues sorted out and fixed I'm sure it'll be a good car for you.
