Help me think realistically here..

Ok, I've had the GREAT pleasure of driving around Matt's BBY evo, and have it till this friday when I gotta give it back, after doing a few more things/fixing some stuff.

I've found a few evos I really really like. But, with that comes the need to part with the talon, after all that's been done to her. I'd be back to basic, stock evo. But, a newer car, responsive, handling car, with amazing potential with more money invested.

I know i'd miss the power and the potential in the talon though, as I really haven't spared any expense with it. Shep trans, built motor, decent turbo, cop/msd setup, EMS, even the baller -an lines/fittings for everything. degree'd cams, etc.

I just can't figure out what to do. I know you'd all say tune the car and enjoy it for atleast this year, which is true I can say. But, if i did that, i might miss the power and not get the evo. I'm thinking I can't miss what I didn't know i had? Anyway, thoughts? I'm at a loss.

Re: Help me think realistically here..

I think you should keep that talon as the "race car" and pick up an evo for a daily, while still modding the evo.

Re: Help me think realistically here..

That's another idea I had. There's a white evo8, with a 9 rear end, and lights, twin disk, evo 9 turbo, buddyclub full coilovers, rear swaybar, etc for 13.5k. Any idea on payments? I'm not sure in this economy i'd even get a loan for that.

Re: Help me think realistically here..

LOL! Go swifty! I was in a similar boat to you just before I bought my evo, but was facing slightly different circumstances. My 2G was turning into a maintenance nightmare. I had a 35r but nothing to really tune it and get the potential I needed out of it, so I was facing a big pile of money needing to be spent in mods before the car would really be fun again, and even then, it had this overheating issue. I needed a reliable DD and in the end it was a trade off for power vs reliability, but I was surprised with a stock car that handled great, stopped great, had comfy seats, and my wife actually liked it.

The sky is the limit with evos, but if you take it slow and keep the modding reasonable (see our mod your evo $100 at a time thread), its hard to give the DSM the nod here. You can make 260-320whp reliably and fit 4 friends in the thing. I am not nice to my car and it has treated me well (for the most part). I boost on it at least 10x per day if not more, each one is a little mood-adjuster that keeps me happy and sane. No it is not the fastest thing on the planet but at the same time it beats the piss out of a lot of other heavily modded cars.

So yea, really all I gotta say is 16g powa ftw, my evo makes me smile. You've driven it, you know what its like!

But on the flip side, remember....its still a car and still got some dsm-esque things hiding in it. Lucky for you, you have the experience of the other evo owners on this board to lean on

I thought about doing that too.....but ultimately it was too much money. 2x insurance payments, 2x the tires, 2x the oil changes, belts, blah blah blah blah blah, plus you have to find an extra spot to park it, and you know how happy dsms get when not being driven regularly. I kept my 2G for almost 3 months after buying my evo. cdeutsch said this too, but one day I walked into the garage, and even though it was cool as hell to see this:

I picked the evo to drive *every* time. After I hadn't driven it for about a month is when I finally decided I really wanted to sell it. It was sad, but I don't regret it.

Re: Help me think realistically here..

I really would plan on a 2.3l 35/37r car if I did the evo. I love the quick spool and how responsive it is, but where top end lacks in ballz-to-the-wall powa, the larger setup would accel. I'd prolly end up spending shit tons of money on teh evo too, doing -an lines/fittings again (I hate stock hoses for some reason?) and etc.

I'd also do nice mods outside the car..white evo, black tails, 9 rear bumper, wingless (most likely) cf parts lip, slam it, and nice bronze aggressive wheels..work emotion KAI, volk ce28ns, etc. I dunno.

Re: Help me think realistically here..

You should drive my car now that it has the BBK. The top end is a lot more fun, but you get to keep all of the midrange

Fuel lines are not needed, there's guys making 700whp on the stock lines and dual fuel pumps. Stock regulator too. Thats money you can spend elsewhere

2.3/37r you're going to be in the same boat as your dsm as far as reliability is concerned. If you plan on doing that I say keep the 1g, its cheaper to fix.

Re: Help me think realistically here..

yea, i really dunno. Maybe I'm jsut loosing interest in the whole ballz out power thing all-together. I like good fast power, and concentrate on baller looks..I.E. wheels, suspension, etc.

Re: Help me think realistically here..

They why aspire to do the 2.3 and big turbo? People are getting 550whp on dynojets out of stock frame turbos on stock bottom ends. Shit I made 360whp and some are making 380whp on a stock IX turbo with alky or E85, that is about the perfect amount of power for having fun w/o spending too much and still having a freaking fun-ass car to drive.

Re: Help me think realistically here..

If you want a bigger turbo power car then stick with the 1G. If you are happy with a 16G and want a newer car, then go for the Evo. But you won't be gaining anything but even more costs, if you want to do a stroker and big turbo with the Evo.

Re: Help me think realistically here..

Seems silly to me. You have a nice 1g thats so close to completion, but you want to part that out and all the work you did just to start over with a more expensive base?

Re: Help me think realistically here..

The Evo will turn into a larger money pit and you know it. There is no kicking the GFCP. You will end up with an Evo version of what your 1g is now. If you are going to buy an Evo, might as well not lie to yourself and realize whats it's going to end up being(if you wanted looks/show only, you'd buy something that doesn't have the potential of making power.. there is a reason the Evo is THE option).

Oh, and having multiple cars that you are modding sucks arse, I wouldn't suggest it(I may be adding another soon :P.. I've skipped the GFCP and went straight to needles in both arms).

Re: Help me think realistically here..

GFCP? Yea, I know the evo would be a mod car, but I think I may just lean towards toning it down. Who knows..

I Think I need an immediate tuning session for the talon, like now. I'm getting that spring bug, and bag. The evo is all I got right now to light that damn fire, and it is indeed one of the sexy cars out there..

only two "realistic" cars I'd love to have that's a dream of mine is the evo and a newer supra. What gives.

I think the mod bug and GFCP are different things. I take a hit on the go fast crack pipe daily in my evo. It's been fun since it was stock and its still fun as it is now. One thing is for certain: when it's not running, I go bezerk within a few days

I say if you have gone this far on the talon already, might as well keep it for a while to enjoy it and see what it can do.
