Yeah i shit myself when i read this but it is true. Boost Solutions is trying to build a 1000 hp evo and had the turbo all done and wanted to see what the stock engine could do before the put the 2.3 stroker kit in. Just amazing 42.5 psi on the stock internals and it was just fine, the engine builder said the pistons still looked like new, no signs of detnation or anything, pure craziness :jammin:

Thats just stupid. Who cares if you can do it once or twice. If the motor did happen to blow, then there is a good chance their overly expensive HKS turbo would have been taken out with it. With 42.5 on pump gas you know it was detonating even if their went signs of it yet. A motor can run for quite a while detonating, but once pre-ignition starts its gone. There mod list for that car reads like a wish list for someone who reads Import Tuner and Super Street too much.

That was fuckin dumb. Why don't they try running it w/o oil for 1 minute. Bet it will work still must be able to take that abuse!
What is it with some of these evo owners singing praises for some dumb ass shops. Boost soultions and Vishnu are highly regarded in some parts of that community. :shrugs:
This isn't aimed at you Ryan, I know you'll run a 12 this year w/o having to buy some magic piggyback that makes 5 more hp over a smaller powerband.

:stick: Im not singing any praises by any means, but i think it is cool that the 4G63 handled it so well, and i didnt say it was gonna last forever but it just shows how strong these engines are. I just think its cool that they are attempting something like this, who cares if they fail or it works. Either way its cool to watch and learn what works. Here is the Datalog from those runs on high psi http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.ph...?threadid=65483

Fucking retarted.
First its bs, psi isn't a measurement of horsepower, it isn't impressive to real 'tuners' and is just ricer language.
Secondly, ecoli is right, ricer mod list, i'll call it a 'jizz list' shit you think looks cool, but isn't all together.
Thirdly, I am more impressed with numbers, like the 6g72 putting down 906enginehp @ 25psi, t-78 turbo, stock motor (including gaskets).
That is impressive, having a car 'spike' huge amounts of boost according to a '60psi boost gauge' is something else, sounds like a laggy pig imo that builds boost and overuns the system before the wastegate can run it out.
Don't get me wrong, running insane amounts of boost is possibly on pump gas, but eventually the 93 or whatever octane doesn't have enough 'control' left in the burn, you ARE going to detonate, no matter HOW big the injectors, HOW big the pump, AND how 'trick' you aem is.
Blah, I've wasted 5 minutes of my time.
Lets see a 1/4 time, maybe a longevity record, then i'll give it the thumbs up.

Thats a good point, testing the boundaries are cool, but that 'thread' is hyping it, I can just see people trying to run 30+ psi on there stock cars now cause 'they know this one dude, that saw that one guy, this one time, run that amount boost' or some stupid shit like that. Also if they are having to run that amount to 'make power' something is wrong, or it better be putting down 1000+whp.

I guess Mike from RRE must be an idiot too. He pushed 400 at the wheels of his EVO. When he hit that, he was readily willing to blow the motor. He let the turbo boost untill it couldn't boost any higher. He purely wanted to see what it could take. And the motor took it, didn't break anything. The HP number he hit was purely turbo limited. They had the turbo on that thing maxed out. Sometimes research costs some money. It might sound insane to me and you, but to the people who have the money and the resources to take things to their limits for research, then it's worth it to them.

There is a huge differance to pushing a setup to it's limits in terms of R&D and mixing a bunch of shit in a bowl and calling it a cake mix.

Hince what I was gettting at. Making a 'run' on an engine dyno is cool, to see if the turbo or whatever is choking off the system. But to continue to beat the car on the street afterwards is asking for it. My biggest beef is 'pump gas' and the 'motor' looked fine. BS! Whip out a microscope and check out the pistons, check the combustion chamber, check the headgasket, something must of gone. Hell if not, sign me up for an evo...i'll just unplug everything 'and let er buck' (sarcasm).
Research does take time and money, r&d and product designs (especially for one offs) take time and money, most people don't realize these problems and automatically assume everything is easy/cheap to build, bolt-on, or already pre-made. Pushing the boundaries is the entire reason imports are in the 7's, and unless they are continued to be pushed, the community will stop developing. (its late, hope that made sence).

well, i want to know the numbers on that turbo, because you say that PSI means nothing.. well.. not when you know cfm's too. if it's a big turbot and you have a ton of psi that can give you an idea of where they are on the "insane scale". know what i'm saying?
i want an evo still i don't care what people say.

This is JDM
We're all little kids inside when it comes to cars...
If I had a bunch of money, and it wasn't my car, and NO one had tested the limits like that, I'da been the first to do it. Some one wanted it done, and they got it did. It's not smart, but neither is blowing up a bull frog with a fire cracker, or burning ants with a magnifying glass. Think of it like that, rather than ACTUALLY attempting to make a car run constant at that. Of course they're not going to do that. They're still in business, they must be doing something right...

If they had a reason to do it, cool. If not, why the hell do it? Glad its not my car and time and money.
I fully plan on seeing how much power I can make on my neon on stock internals when it comes time that i have the money to go turbo. The reason for this is because *I* want to see what I can make compared to most of the other neon people on stock internals. Im guessing I can get into the low 300whp range without my piston cracking. When it does crack (on Pump) I will build the motor and baby the hell out of it keeping it in the high 200whp range until I have the money for it. I have no clue why i just typed that, but oh well.
