used clutch or new clutch?

hey I am looking for some peoples opinion on buying a used clutch? if you found one with only a few thousand miles on it would it be a good thing to you use or should I just get a new one. or what about a used pressure plate and a new clutch disk?

I would by brand new. You don't really know how it was treated or how much life is left.

Re: used clutch or new clutch?

Well if it helps any, my Southbend clutch only had a few thousand miles on it in 2 years time and the clutch disc was completely shot from so dam many launches. The pressure plate is good, I just bought a new disc ($200 from Southbend).... So miles doesn't mean anything, It's how abused it was. Of course the right thing to do is buy new. If you're tight for cash at least buy a new disc for that used pressure plate.

Re: used clutch or new clutch?

I bought a used Centerforce Dual-Friction clutch for $150 that had about 1k miles on it and it held rock-solid for over 30k miles worth of drag-racing, street-racing, and hot-lapping. If you can get a good deal from someone you trust then go for it. Would I buy a used clutch from some dude I didn't know? No way.

^If going used, buy it from someone trustworthy or someone you know. If not, then buy it new.
