Can you smell the new guy smell?

...Well thats me. Yeah I am new to this forum and to the local scene. I was on this other forum that was more national for a while, but all they talked about on there was turbo cars, and it was like mine was a POS or something. It got annoying to say the least. I know the Turbo cars are MUCH MUCH faster, and well much more cherished, but I cherish my car also. I know its only a ESI, with a Neon Motor (LOL), but its more the body style for me, than the performance.

I guess I am looking for a place to vent and discuss my car, and yours, without being stereotyped into a corner for NOT having a AWD Turbo DSM. I just love my little car and I don't really care that much if its a Turbo or not. Don't get me wrong, if it was a Turbo AWD drive, I would probably already be dead from driving myself into something at a high rate of speed, so maybe thats good.

I supposed I should introduce myself a little bit. My name Michael LaMere, all of my friends, and forum peeps call me either, HippoFish, or The Fish, either one works for me. I am 35, and I live in Brooklyn Center. I have a wife and two beautiful kids.

I come from owning a 2000 Civic Si...yeah yeah yeah, booooooo I know what you are all going to say...TRAITOR...but it was fun, and my wife wanted a Honda. The one thing I can say about the Honda was, no fixy all the time...LOL. Well anyways thats the kind of power and speed I was used to, not a FAST car, but not really slow either. I have finally gotten my ESI to where that STOCK Honda was. At least as close to that as I can get without MAJOR work. I know for sure that the torque on the Talon is MUCH greater than the Civic, so starts are much more dramatic in the Talon, however the high end revs of the Civic are still ringing in my mind when I look down and watch my revs climb slow and steady unlike the rocket fuel feeling of the VTEC kicking in. So that is where I am coming from.

However my Talon has the looks over the Civic by ten fold. That Civic was a black box with two doors. My 1995 Talon is a lovely creature of curves and bumps. I can stand back and just admire the way SHE looks. So in that respect there is no comparison. The Talon is a much superior car in almost every way. The only two places where the civic excels is: Resale Value, and Highway acceleration.

Thats about all there is about me right now and I hope to learn more about all of you in the future. If I don't get booed off of here for having a N/A car, then I am here to stay...otherwise I will sadly move on and try and find a new home...sorry I have been burned for so long at the other forum, its hard to keep a positive outlook sometimes...

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to a long relationship on this forum...

The Fish

Re: Can you smell the new guy smell?

welcome
from the crazy swap guy

lets start it off not all of us started out with there cars turbo
my 92 talon was a 4g63 n/a shell
my 98 spyder was a auto 4g64 n/a now a awd 6bolt 5speed
my 95 4dr mirage was a 1.5 auto now a rhd 4g63 awd evo III
you can do what ever you want to the cars and bolt on a turbo kit or a compleat swap to a 4g63 in you talon is not that hard to do

Welcome.

I started out with Mitsu's with my 1.5L 89 Dodge Colt 5 speed a while back. Non-turbo's are pretty fun beaters cause they aren't nearly as anal with tuning as turbo cars are.

But you race in reverse, so it doesn't matter.

Welcome. A love for the car is mostly all that matters here. We're a rather tight knit group, do your best and make it to a meet or two and get to know us.

Re: Can you smell the new guy smell?

Pics are coming very soon. I just did a modification, thats really no big deal, but it gives it that edge that I need to take some pictures of. I would say within the next couple of days I will have pics up on the site. I need to manage my profile here pretty soon. Its all good, thanks for the warm welcome and I understand the ribbing and the good poking at once in a while. Its the "You are a fucking loser for having a NT car" that got to me on the last forum, that happened constantly. I agree its mostly about lovin' your car that should make you a member of a site like this, and I'm glad to hear a few of you think the same way.

And hopefully I have more than 67whp. Probably not much more, but lets hope I do...LOL

Welcome. The love of a car is what it's all about. I fall hard for my cars. Always have. I daily drive a DSM but I just started doing any power mods so we'll see how long that lasts.
