Just a little safety reminder.

You know, This probably applies in some way to more people that I can think of on here so I am posting up a little blurb about something that happened at one of our locations in another state.

The employee was using a nail gun to secure stopping tracks in a truck before a shipment. he heard a weird noise when one nail came out of the gun and bounced off a metal object. When he stodd up he thought he had a spec of dirt on his glasses from the inccident but as you can see it wasn't. Can you just imagine how that would of ended up?

With all you car nuts how many people don't wear eye protection and how many do? I'm actually kinda curious, as I know I never do since I wear regular glasses, but realize that those don't alway do the trick. Even getting dirt and other smaller particle in you eyes while wrenching on the cars can cause some damage, so maybe this will motivate someone down the road.

The only problem is that even safety glasses don't even help sometimes

Right, in most cases employers just run to walmart or some cheapo place for safety glasses, to stand a chance they need to be OSHA approved.

Re: Just a little safety reminder.

I wear OSHA approved glasses on jobsites and also when working on the car. They help, but don't stop things going around them, especially when working over your head/laying down. I'm suprised that the nail didn't go through. I'm sure it was a Paslode propane powered nailer, which isn't anything like the air powered Paslodes that really pack a punch.

Re: Just a little safety reminder.

I was under my car before and I got a crap load of dirt/rust in my eye. First thing I did after that was get some check safety glasses from menards. That's a pretty scary pic though. Glad hes alright.

Re: Just a little safety reminder.

I wear eyglasses that are OSHA approved at my old job, but they didn't stop dirt and other stuff from getting in them too. It's a tradeoff. I used them to keep sparks from flying in my eyes too, when i'd use the torch or cut-off wheel. Course, now i'm jobless at the moment, so who knows what i'll do next.

Re: Just a little safety reminder.

I was fired. They hired like 4 new people, and since I was on the lower end of the totem pole I guess, I got canned. Really shitty deal, as I actually liked it there, was paid pretty well, and now i'm fucked. It's hard finding a new job. No one on brooklyn blvd is hiring, and i've called other dealerships and they are not hiring. Hell, even charlie luther himself has been helping me (car buddy) but NO ONE needs help. I've not no job. It blows.

Whenever I'm grinding or brushing, I wear my glasses and a shield. I'm not so fortunate to have a light built-in, but I do wear one of those hunting/fishing headlamps which always gives me great illumination.

Re: Just a little safety reminder.

I always wear safety glasses whether I'm in the shop, working on my cars, or on the farm, especially since I primarily wear contacts. Getting shit in your eyes with contacts in is an absolute nightmare. The picture that AJ posted has been floating around the net for a couple of years (or at least one similar) as our shop manager here at school has it printed off and plastered all over the walls.

Re: Just a little safety reminder.

Yeah, I'm guilty of not wearing mine and I have 3-4 pairs around here. Last week I was grinding something and something sharp hit my cheek hard, missed my eye by a half inch. I'm wearing some today grinding out some holes for my new spoiler.

Re: Just a little safety reminder.

I wear them at work all day. I don't wear them all the time when working on my cars, but if I'm grinding, or doing anything where it makes sense to have them, I wear them. I have like 3 pair of them, and two sets of ear muff things for when the Air Compressor is pumping up. I also have gloves, and masks that I wear when powder coating.

I only use them when I am using the impact wrench at weird angles, or when I am grinding/power cleaning something.

I call photoshop. I also usually don't use protective eye wear. mostly I'm working with hand wrenches though, so it doesn't matter.

Re: Just a little safety reminder.

I use them when I am under the car, grinding, or doing anything pneumatic. Other wise I get tired of pushing them up and pretty soon I cant see through them anyway.

It wasn't photoshopped. Why would a company of this size, post something to their employees be fake? Get a life... seriously, go out and get one.

When I was younger "and dumber", I was a tire tech at Tires Plus as a tire jockey, pulling the valve stem out and the customer had put in that fix a flat crap sprayed all over me and my eyes and of course I had no protection so that was a nice 4hr. ordeal with the eye doctor and $2,000 bill later I could see. Moral of the story wear your protection cause some companys wont cover you if you are not wearing protection....

working on a car, no.
tuning a car, no.
Metal fabrication, yes. I've had rust removed from an eyeball, NOT FUN.
