Anybody want to help with tuning?
I just put a new turbo, injectors, and mas on my 1st gen. I am not experienced with tuning so I was wondering if someone would be interested in meeting up with me and showing me a few things on how to set it up. I am using mmcd on my palm, and an safcll. I'm just looking to set my car up the best I can and maybe take it to the Dyno if necessary.
I live in Burnsville close to 35 and 42. I have a double car garage with lots of tools.
Thanks,
Nate

Re: Anybody want to help with tuning?
Call LSE and get some dyno time.

My car needs to be adjusted....I wouldn't even want to drive it to the dyno.

Re: Anybody want to help with tuning?
If you post the exact mods you have I am sure someone would give you SAFC settings to get you close to get you to some one that can help you further.
From there, pic DB, LSE, or MAP. They all know there stuff and could help you.

What size injectors do you have and what are your other mods.

Re: Anybody want to help with tuning?
Dont you just calculate the difference between your stock and new injectors, and adjust the settings to compensate for that? )at least at idle. Then you monitor you logger while you drive around. when certain values go out of range, add or subtract more fuel on the different throttle settings. I wish someone had a specific tuning FAQ that showed what things you need to watch on the logger, and then what values they should typically stay at.

Re: Anybody want to help with tuning?
If you tell us the MAF, injector size and base fuel pressure(if known), we can give you some SAFC settings to get the car driveable.
Do you have an EPROM ECU? Tuning directly inside the factory ECU is the next best thing to a standalone as far as fuel and timing control on these cars.

Re: Anybody want to help with tuning?
Do yourself a big favor and dont have someone "street tune" it. Get it driveable and take it to a dyno. Dont have someone street tune your car unless you know what they are doing and you know the implications. Even if the person is good at it and knows what they are doing. You need to have a good understanding of where its at and what will happen if anything changes.

Re: Anybody want to help with tuning?
Just street tune it. Unless you wanna pay a few hundred extra bucks to dyno it.
I street tune my SAFC-II on my 1st gen.
I have 16g, 680 cc injectors.

Yeah, but you could be down 30 hp from a good tune! Without a wideband you are just guessing.

Wanna bet I find more power in your car?
I am so tired of people thinking their street tuned car is perfect. At the dyno day yesterday we had many cars near ready to blow that were street tuned. I think I picked up 100awhp on 3 cars total in 9 pulls, all I was doing was correcting things that could potential cause failures, or just allow them to make a clean pull, not even tuning for power yet.
Tuning is a serious business. You can have all the right parts in the world, but if you don't know how to tune you'll be shooting yourselves in the foot. I've made HUGE gains on customer cars with 1-2 hours worth of dyno time that would have cost them 2-4 months of "street tuning" let alone a ticket.
What is the price of a ticket now? $180 ish? (Think of the worst case senerio..90+mph in a 65mph if your lucky).
1 hour of dyno time (s-afc setups and most dsmlink cars) is...$180 and you don't pay for it with higher insurance rates for years to come...hmmm....
Now street checking is one thing, but with the availability of AWD chassis dynos across the twin cities and the excellent tuner across the twin cities, street tuning a car just isn't worth it. Now I know it is expensive for dyno time, I was there many years ago. I would street tune all the time. After you get a few tickets, get in some "near miss" situations, and realize the gains that can be made on the rollers, you'll never go back. I couldn't fathom how down on power my personal car would be if I didn't have the opportunity to dyno tune it.

Re: Anybody want to help with tuning?
So true. we all know how long i've waited to get tuned, but i can say without a doubt. It's worth every valued penny you spend! I don't once hafta worry about the tunes I got for my car. I only worry when brownman's around, and we gotta fix his car at a gas station with 3 cop cars there..

Re: Anybody want to help with tuning?
So.....in order to "properly" street tune, you need what? dsm link or a wideband?

Re: Anybody want to help with tuning?
Both and then some, lol. I have both and i street tune. I would like to get a real dyno tune but i really can't afford it. I'd have to get an other tune later when I get cams and maybe head work, i will get a real dyno tune when i am done putting performance parts in my car.
